I am doing B.Sc with Physics as the honours subject. I have a passion to make a career in the oil, rig, and petroleum industry. From what I found through some research, it seems that there is huge scope for this career in foreign countries but not in India. Though I have no problem working outside India, I want to know in precise the scope of this career in India. Please provide me relevant information on this.

Natural oil and petroleum industry has a good scope for a career in India as well whereas oil rig industry is only considerable in other countries such as UK and Gulf countries. India, being the fifth largest consumer of energy, demands a huge growth of oil and petroleum industry in years to come. Employments in the Oil and Gas industry are growing and are in high demand. At present13000 people are employed in this industry sector and are expected to grow continually in coming years.

You have various options to consider in this field like project engineers, fuel gas engineers, designers and other technical jobs. Oils and Gas industry takes in engineers from diverse specializations like chemical, civil, petrochemical etc. This industry provides good job opportunity for geophysicists who are mainly needed in investigating exploration, drilling and leasing activities.
