CCTVs in DTC buses - Is that enough to safeguard Delhi?
CCTVs in DTC buses – Is that enough to safeguard Delhi?
Introduction
Delhi Transport Corporation has started with the installation of the CCTV cameras in the DTC buses. They are aiming to start with the 200 buses plying all round the city and then increase further with the success rate on the prevailing ones. We can see the CCTVs installed at many places round the city and they do work for sometime with continuous surveillance at the background. But they soon lose their charm, as either the repair process is not done on time, or the people fail to handle the surveillance mechanism. In these scenario, is that enough to install the CCTVs in the route buses to safeguard the Delhites?
Yes
- Government should do the best from its side, and installing the CCTVs in the DTC buses is an appreciable move.
- Installing the cameras in huge numbers is not all that easy task. DTC organization definitely have set plans to implement the camera coverage.
- 3 cameras per bus is aimed at to focus the bus completely. Keeping an eye on every bus running in the city is a difficult initiative which the government has tried to give it a success.
- The effort would be definitely better for the women’s security round the city in comparison to the present one.
- DTC is also looking forward to line up the coverage with the Internet in order to keep an eye on every remote corner of the city.
No
- We already have CCTV coverage in many other parts of the city where the crime usually takes place like the subways, but there is no use of those cameras as they haven’t helped in curbing the crime index so far.
- The CCTVs need to be repaired and reinstalled from time-to-time as they require maintenance to keep a track on their functioning ability. We already lack at this point.
- The installation of the CCTV also requires the person to be supervising the same at the other end. Lack of proper staffing or the careless handling of the supervising system leads to the crime in the city.
- It is not the devices that safeguard, but the alertness of the co-citizens / travellers and the immediate and strict action by the cops that will help in getting down the crime rate in the city.
- Women safety will come with the better evolution of the human brain and proper education regarding the physical development and relationships. Just the CCTVs alone cannot help in protecting the women.
Conclusion
Though it is not the only step to stop the crime across the city, but it is definitely a very good and appreciable approach to the curb the crime index in the city. The CCTV coverage in all the route buses including a check on the remote areas which attract a lot many bad elements will definitely help in better surveillance. Provided the DTC is able to deliver all the set expectations with the installation of these cameras, we can definitely look forward to a better and safe living.

- Safeguard Delhi: There are two words but the scope of these two words is quite wide. Delhi is facing lot more issues from last some time. The place is not considered as safe for women. The crime rate is rising with each and every day and in all the different areas. So, in the topic what are we trying to discuss about.
Coming to the rape case of Nirbhaya that happened in bus and stirred the entire country, if the title is analyzed under the same context then the CCTVs in DTC buses are not at all enough to safeguard Delhi.
The one thing that I would like to highlight is that Delhi is not short of technology. The officials working are even well informed about the various technological advances. But still crime happens. Most of the times, CCTVs just act as a means to capture the criminals. That is the sole purpose they serve in most of the places. So, how can we expect that CCTVs in DTC buses can safeguard Delhi?
The scenario in present time has worsened in Delhi. And if government wants to change it, it has to come with strict actions against the criminals. The fear factor works as a tool to limit the damage. The change should come in every part of the system. Then only it is possible to safeguard Delhi.

- hello everyone
i also think that dtc buses with cctvs will give a gud solution to curb the menace of crimes with the women but not fully but still to a lot of extent. It should be us who must support this because this will invoke the terror for those criminals and they shall think hundred times before doing any wrong actions.also we should not forget that this can only happen if the people related with the matters of careful watching activites need to be careful the time they sense the suspect.they must be fast enough to catch the criminals before the crime.we should not blame them easily because they are also doing their duty well.I think we shall also help them in doing such activities.these alert system must be synchronised with the nearby police station and staff, traffic controller cops, etc.I mean we must invoke more and more personnel in this activity so that they must be tracked at the very earliest time - RE: CCTVs in DTC buses – Is that enough to safeguard Delhi? -dwiti dash (08/14/14)

- the success rate of CCTV's in DTC buses is only depends on our cops? how attentive they are? only placing cameras in the buses is not the solution we should taken care of that.
cops should be surveillance of the videos and if found any wrong quick actin is need. but as our system is so lazy, then this is just wastage of money.
