INS Vikrant sold


The Indian Navy sold its decommissioned ship INS Vikrant to a ship breaking company of Mumbai in 63 crore. INS Vikrant was commissioned in the navy in 1961 and originally its name was HMS Hercules. It was purchased by India from UK in 1957. It was decommissioned in 1997.

New NASSCOM chairman


The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has received a new chairman as R Chandrashekhar, executive director of Cognizant India. The National Association of Software and Services Companies is a trade association of Indian Information Technology and Business Process Outsourcing industry. Established in 1988, NASSCOM is a non-profit organisation. Nasscom, with over 1400 members, has six councils — focusing on business process outsourcing (BPO), product, engineering and research.

Sachin Tendulkar features in cover of Almanack


Sachin Tendulkar has become the first Indian to feature in the cover of 151st edition of Wisden cricketers’ Almanack.

MCX-SX launches banking index


MCX-SX has launched a new index “SxBank” to capture the performance of banking sector. SxBank’s constituents represent over 80 per cent of the total market capitalisation of all banking stocks. The index is computed with base date of March 31, 2010, and is indexed to a base value of 5,000. The index consists of ten most liquid stocks of banking sector.
