World Kidney Day on 13th March


World Kidney day was observed all across the world on 3th March. The theme of this year’s kidney day was- “Chronic Kidney disease and ageing”. The day is celebrated on the second Thursday of March every year. According to figures, about 60% of the Chronic Kidney Disease patients have a history of either diabetes or high blood pressure or even both. Thus, this day aims to spread awareness about the ailments related to kidney.

Plastic voter cards in India


Nagaland and Assam will be the first two states in India to be issued Plastic Photo Identity Card for elections. Also, from these elections the voter cards which will be issued will not be black and white. From these elections, EC is providing colored voter ID cards.

New venue for IPL matches


7th edition of IPL will start from 16th April till 1st June 2014 and this year it will be organized in UAE as declared by BCCI. It has been shifted to other countries due to elections in the country. During the elections, the Government won’t be able to provide security arrangement for the high profile tournaments.

Soma Mandal , new Director for NALCO


Soma Mandal has been appointed as the new director of Navratna PSU National Aluminum company Ltd. (NALCO). She is the first women employee of the company to have been elevated to that post.

Cricketer of the generation award


Sachin Tendulkar, who recently won the Bharat Ratna Award, has been chosen for the cricketer of the generation award provided by ESPNcricinfo’s . The other two cricketer who featured in the list are Jacque Kallis and Shane Warne.

Michelle Bachlett , new president of Chile


Michelle Bachlett has been sworn in as the new president of Chile and she succeeds president Sebestian Pinerra .

B N Shrikrishna , new chairman of Financial Planning and Standards Board (FPSB)


Just. Rtd. B N Shrikrishna has been appointed as the new chairman of FPSB. He will succeed Dhirendra Swarup. Justice (Retd.) BN Srikrishna is a retired judge of Supreme Court and has served as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court. He has also served as the Chairman of the Financial Sector Legislative Reforms Commission (FSLRC) set up in March 2011 by the Union Ministry of Finance and headed the 6th Pay commission.

USFDA imposes ban on Gujarat’s Sun pharmaceutical plant


US food and drug administration (USFDA) has put a ban on the Karkhadi plant of Gujarat’s Sun pharmaceutical for allegedly not meeting required manufacturing practices. It is the biggest drugmaker of the country. Before this, USFDA had also put embargos on Ranbaxy Pharma.

Rakesh Sethi , new CMD of Allahabad bank


Rakesh Sethi is the new CMD of Allahabad Bank headquartered in Kolkata and he succeeds Shubhalakshmi Panse in this role.

Presidential election in El Salvador


Former leftist rebel Salvandor Sanchez Ceren has won the presidential elections in El Salvador as he defeated the incumbent Norman Quijano with winning almost fifty percent of the vote share.

Templeton Prize, 2014


Czech Priest Tomas Halik has been awarded with the Templeton Prize given by the John Templeton Foundation and thus he has won an award of 1.1 million pounds. This prize is given for “an exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension”.

Indian mobile making firm offers green mobile


Indian telecom device maker Vihaan networks (VNL) is providing green mobiles in the remotest villages of Ghana, South Africa. VNL’s solar powered world GSM mobile tower architecture which is an environment friendly and cost effective mobile system is providing its facilities in Ghana. It is already serving in Nigeria, Uganda and Benin.

TERI launches Web-GIS Tool


The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has launched the first Web GIS Tool for estimating solar power potential for Indian solar cities. This tool will be first launched in Chandigarh and then in other cities. Chandigarh will be made a model solar city. This programme is being supported by Shakti Sustainaible energy foundation, CII, union govt. and many other organizations.

Larry Page, the CEO of Google has topped the list of America’s most powerful CEOs under the age of 40 where Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg remains at 2nd and Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo at 3rd position.
