“Operation Searchlight” by India
Indian navy and coastguard have started a combined effort to search for the missing MH-370 Malaysian aircraft in the Andaman Sea. MH-370 has been missing since 7 March and the whereabouts have yet not been found. Speculations are rife that the plane could have been hijacked. India is using Boeing P8-1 which is a maritime patrol aircraft as well as C 130J super Hercules transport aircraft and many other warships to help in the search operations.
Largest yellow star found
The US astronauts spotted the largest ever yellow star named HR 1571 A, which is supposed to be 300 times larger than the sun. They are named as yellow stars because have a very high temperature – which is in the range of 5,200-6000 k and thus it emits yellow whitish light.
Electronic cash transaction facility launched at Begumpet airport
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has launched a GPRS-enabled electronic cash transaction facility at the Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. This facility is aimed at supporting the requirements of cash transactions for collection of airport charges from non-scheduled operators. This facility can also handle multiple currencies and provide credit for up to 45 days to non scheduled operators if payment is made through credit cards.
New chairman of MCX-SX exchange
Thomas Mathew T, former chairman of LIC has been appointed as the new chairman of MCX-SX exchange. He will replace GK Pillai, the former home secretary as he has resigned from the post of chairman.
Agreement between EXIM bank and Congo
Export Import bank of India (EXIM bank) will provide a line of credit of $90 million to the Republic of Congo for the development of transportation system in the country. With the signing of this agreement, EXIM bank has now in place 188 line of credit covering 75 countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and others.
Agreement between NTPC and Trincomalee power
The consultancy wing of NTPC will provide services to Trincomalee Power Company of Srilanka for setting up of 500 MW coal based power projects at Trincomalee, Srilanka.
GVK Reddy receives Life Time Achievement Award
GVK Reddy who is the founder and MD of GVK Group, was bestowed with the prestigious life time achievement award for his work in the field of aviation sector at the Aviation Awards 2014. In the first aviation awards of India, The GVK Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru was rated the Best Airport in India in a tie with Hyderabad International Airport.
