First Indian to get Marconi Prize
In the technology sector, Marconi Society Prize is equal to Nobel Prize. This Marconi Society Prize won by Arogyaswami Joseph Paulraj for the year 2014. He is the first Indian to receive this award. Paulraj achieved this award for developing wireless technology to transmit and receive data at high speeds. He is well known with the invention and advancement of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). MIMO is a key enabler of WiFi and 4G mobile systems. –
National Girl Child Day
On 24th January 2014, National Girl Child Day is observed across India. Aim of this day is to raise the awareness and consciousness of the Society towards girl children. For the first time this day was observed in 2008.
Protest in Ukraine
The term ‘Euromaidan’ came to news recently, which stands for a huge spat of civil unrest and anti-government protests in a country. Ukraine(‘Euromaidan’ mean ‘Eurosquare’. It stands for the ongoing protests and civil unrest undertaken by a large section of Ukrainian populace demanding country’s closer integration with Europe. The protests started on 21 November 2013 from Ukraine’s capital Kiev and since then have grown into a strong movement against President Viktor Yanukovych and his government. The protests against Yanukovych started after his apparent move to incline towards Russian Govt. and moving away from European influence. ‘Euromaidan’ is the largest ever pro-European movement in the history.

Indian economy growth projections
India’s economy is projected to grow at a rate of 5.3% this year. this projection has been given UN World Economic Situation and Prospects(WESP) 2014. It said the Indian economy which accounts for 70 percent of total output in South Asia slowed in 2013 due to mild recovery in investment sector.

To provide easily accessible legal services to a larger population living in rural areas, chief Justice of India P.Sathasivam launched free clinics in 2648 villages nationwide.
