Physicist Rajesh Gopakumar has won the eminent GD Birla scientific research award 2013. He 1.5 lakh rupees award recognizes his significant contributions on topics in Quantum Field Theory and String Theory. The award was started in 1991 to recognize scientific research by Indian scientists.
World Tuberculosis Day observed on 24 March
24th March was celebrated as world TB day across the globe. The theme for this year is “Reach a three million: A TB test, treatment and cure for all”. This day is celebrated to create awareness about the chronic TB disease which claims almost 2 million lives each year.

President Abdulla Yameen's coalition (his party Progressive Party of Maldives + Jumhoory Party) attains majority in Maldives’ Parliamentary elections securing 54 out of the 85 seats.
World climate experts meeting
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) experts on climate meet in the Yokohama city of Japan to decide on the second part of the key assessment of global climate in its report which will be released by March end.
