Global Indian Award 2014
Infosys executive chairman NR Narayan Murthy has been bestowed with the “Canada India Foundation Chanchalani Global Indian Award” 2014 for his leadership in the IT sector in India. The award was presented by Canadian Minister Joe Oliver at an award function.
PV Sindhu wins bronze medal at Asian championship
Indian badminton player PV Sindhu lost to Shixian Wang of China in the semifinals at the Asian Championship held at South Korea ending up as a bronze meddler.
Green Nobel Prize 2014
Indian Ramesh Aggarwal won the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize also known as the Green Nobel Prize for his efforts to control unchecked industrialization all over the country. He is one of the six recipients of the award which carries a cash prize of $175000. The other recipients are:- lawyer Helen Slottje, South Africa's Desmond D'Sa etc. The award was established in 1990 by philanthropist Richard and Rhoda Goldman.
Indian conducts Interceptor missile test
India conducted the trial of its Ballistic Missile Defence system form the Chandipur, Odisha. The BMD system, once installed, is able to secure our important cities from threat of enemy's missiles and is a two tier system. The 1st tier consist of advance Prithvi Air Defence (PAD) missile which will track and destroy enemies' missile (fired from 5000 km away) at a relatively high altitude of over 80 km. The 2nd tier will deal with destruction of missiles fired from close range (2000 km) through Advanced Air Defence (AAD) Missile specialized in lower altitude interception.
World intellectual property day
WIP day was celebrated on 26th April 2014 across the globe. This day was established by World Intellectual Property Organization in 2000 to promote the importance of intellectual property.
