Justice R.M. Lodha , 41st chief Justice of India
Justice R.M. Lodha, the senior most judge of Supreme Court will be the next CJI and take over the seat fron the incumbent CJI P. Sathasivam who is due to retire on 26th April, 2014. Justice Lodha became the judge of Rajasthan high court and he became the judge of SC in 2008. It is to be noted that the appointment of CJI is recommended by the collegiums and it is done on the basis of seniority.
Jens Stoltenberg, new NATO chief
Jens Stoltenberg, former PM of Norway is set to become the new chief of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He will take over the reins from the current secretary general of NATO General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who will retire in October 2014. About NATO:-
• NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty signed on April 4, 1949.
• Headquartered in Brussels, it is a 28 member council.
SC orders to replace BCCI chief
After an order by Supreme Court stating that current BCCI chief S. Srinivasan can influence the investigation in betting case against his son- in- law, the Supreme Court has acted one step ahead by ordering the resignation of Srinivasan till the 7th IPL season continues. As per the court, now Sunil Gavaskar will take over as the acting BCCI chief to administer this IPL season.
Prithvi -2 successfully test fired
Nuclear capable, indigenous surface to surface missile Prithvi-2 was successfully test fired from Balashore, Odisha. It has a strike range of 350 km and is capable of carrying warheads of 500-1000 km. Prithvi-2 was inducted in Strategic Command Force in 2003. Prithvi-1 of the Prithvi series was the first missile to have been made by DRDO under the nation’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.
Google fined by CCI
The competition commission of India (CCI) has asked Google to pay a fine of Rs. 1 crore for resorting to unfair trade practices. CCI is probing a complaint against the internet giant by matrimony.com and Consumer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS) into using its clout and resorting to unfair means in online marketing and advertising.
