Mukul Rohtagi appointed as Attorney General
Senior SC advocate Mukul Rohtagi has been appointed as the new Attorney General of India by the NDA government. He has served as Additional Solicitor General during the previous NDA government. His appointment followed the resignation of previous Attorney General Goolam Vahnavati and Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran.
President of Infosys B. G. Srinivasan resigns
Infosys President B. G. Srinivasan exited Infosys. This is the fourth resignation in this company of a Board level person. His resignation will take effect from June 10. Another board level executive, Ashok Vemuri had earlier quit and joined iGate.
4 Postal Stamps On Modi Issued
A series of 4 postal stamps and a special cover on PM Narendra Modi has been issued by the Department of Post. The stamps have been conceptualised by philatelist Pradip Jain from Bihar. The stamps were issued on the day that Modi took oath.
Telengana and AP have common governor
Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan has taken additional charge for Telengana as well. The governor has been given the charge by the President until a permanent arrangement is made.
Competition panel provides clearance for Tesco's purchase of stake in Trent
The first FDI proposal in multi-brand retail has been approved by the Competition Commission of India. Tesco has been given the clearance to acquire a stake in Trent. Tesco is a British corporate group. Trent is part of the TATA group of companies. It operates stores under the brand name Westside.
India and Bhutan agree to joint hydropower project
India will be building 4 new JV hydropower projects in Bhutan. The two nations have agreed to coordinate on issues pertaining to national security as well. This follows the meeting between the Indian and Bhutanese PM.
DU launches app for applicants
To make the admission process simpler, Dean Students Welfare office launched a mobile application. This app called DU UG Admissions 2014-15 provides information on the application process. It also enables them to apply and pay the fee through it.
Nripendra Misra appointed as principal secretary following passing of ordinance
Retired bureaucrat and erstwhile chairman of TRAI, Nripendra Misra was appointed as principal secretary to the PM after the government promulgated an ordinance to enable his appointment. The ordinance provided the clearance for the appointment.
