Deputy Governor of RBI
The Reserve Bank of India has appointed R Gandhi as the new Deputy Governor of RBI. His tenure will be of 3 years. His appointment comes after Anand Sinha, the former deputy of RBI resigned from his post. The board of RBI consists of 1 Governor and four Deputy Governors. The RBI now has four Deputy Governors – KC Chakrabarty, HR Khan and Urjit Patel. Gandhi, who joined the RBI in 1980, was Executive Director of the central bank since March 2011.
Mozilla chief resigns
Brandon Eich, the chief executive officer of Mozilla- maker of popular Firefox browser resigned after the controversy regarding his support to the ban on same sex marriages. The ban was declared as unconstitutional in US.
Annual Survey of Industries
As per a survey done by Annual Survey of Industries for the year 2011-12 the state with maximum number of factories is Tamil Nadu with 17% of the total 2.17 lakh units in India. It was followed by Maharashtra (13% of the total factories), Andhra Pradesh (12.7%), Gujarat (10.2%) and Uttar Pradesh (6.5%).
Australia recognizes third sex
The Highest Court of Australia gave recognition to third sex or sex other than male or female. After this ruling, a person can mention the sex except male or female in passports, birth certificates and other documents.
Young Achiever Award
This award has been conferred upon Dr B Vinoth Kumar for his contribution in agriculture. The award was set up by the 'Society of Advancement of Human and Nature' (SADHNA), Himachal Pradesh.
Union textile minister resigns
Union Textile Minister Kavuru Sambasiva Rao resigned from the cabinet over the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
