Custom vs Costume
Custom – A commonly accepted practice by a group of people in a specific community or region.
For e.g.:1. Celebrating Onam is a part of the Kerala custom.
2. It is a part of the Indian custom to touch the feet of elders when you meet them.
Custom – It can also mean a product that has been tailor-made according to specifications.
For e.g.: 1. This bike has been custom-made for a physically challenged rider.
2. I had to place an order several weeks ahead to get a custom-made birthday cake.
Costume – A set of clothes (which may or may not include accessories such as shoes, wigs, fans, and bags) that indicate an earlier time period of a particular place, or specific clothes used in a play or an art form.
For e.g.: 1. When Hema visited Kashmir, she dressed up in the costume of a Kashmiri lady, to take photos.
2. In the US, people celebrate Halloween with a costume party, where everyone dresses up as scary characters, such as ghosts or witches.
