Daniel Ricciardo Wins Canadian GP: Bull Run For Red Bull

Montreal saw magic as 24 year old Daniel Ricciardo charged ahead to win the Canadian Grand Prix. The Aussie player's maiden grand prix victory was lauded by fans and contemporaries alike. In what is undoubtedly Formula 1's most popular race, this young race car driver showed he has what it takes to win.

The Montreal race track was built 36 years ago on the Ile Notre Dame amidst Quebec's mighty river. This track is one of the toughest in the world when it comes to F1 races. Few would have predicated Ricciardo's win. The Red Bull team's Renault engine is lower on power as compared to the standard-setting Mercedes team.

Vetel and Ricciardo were aiming for decent result. Posing a challenge to dominant Mercedes cars, both Red Bull drivers were sure of notching up a success of some sort. The GP went along expected lines in the beginning as Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton moved for the win, but when both lost their hybrid systems at the same time, losing out on speeds as high as 160 bhp, Ricciardo and Vettle took the lead. Hamilton even lost his breaks while Rosberg singlehandedly tried to fend off his rivals.

Ricciardo sought to take advantage of these developments. He jumped Vettle at the second pit stop and wreaked massive damage through his in-lap. Force India's Sergio Perez could not keep up with the Aussie player. Williams driver Felipe Massa suffered a huge blow in the final lap of the GP.

Red Bull driver Ricciardo strugged behind Perez for 16 laps though before he was able to pass him by. Catching up with Rosberg then, Ricciardo completed the penultimate lap. Those who questioned Red Bull's decision to promote Ricciardo will now have no leg to stand on.

Ricciardo has thrived at Red Bull to the point where he is now the new GP sensation leaving behind other players like Raikkonen and Alonso who were once considered for appointment by this company. Ricciardo has out-performed Vettel as well.

Ricciardo is also a good team player. In the races in Bahrain and China, he showed commitment to the team goals as well. He was chosen by Red Bull for his ability to play along with the team and not rock the boat.

Ricciardo has proved to be more than just that. The Aussie star is a driver with a future in the F1 circuit. Ricciardo's consistent excellence is a point to appreciate given that the Aussie youngster is displaying talent in ways that are far beyond several senior players.

Natural talent needs to be encouraged in youngsters so that any sport can grow. India is largely oriented towards cricket, but giving a fillip to other sports by encouraging youngsters can also have positive results for this sector. Sports is a source of national pride and we can give off our best only if youngsters are given the financial support and encouragement to progress in the game.
