Decent, Descent, Dissent
Decent – Something that is in accordance with the socially accepted standard of morality and modesty
For e.g.: 1. Ashima has worn a decent evening gown.
2. Nikhil has cut off his shoulder-length hair and is looking decent for a change.
Decent – an acceptable standard or quantity
For e.g.: 1. A one thousand square feet house is a decent living space for a family of three.
2. I have a decent one month vacation after my Bachelor’s degree exam.
Descent – A downward movement, a drop, or downward fall
For e.g.: 1. The descent from the hill is tricky; you can lose your balance or fall.
2. The poor farmer’s descent to bankruptcy began when there was excessive rainfall last monsoon.
Dissent – Disagreement or a difference in opinion. It can be used either as a verb or as a noun. Both types of examples are given below.
As a verb
For e.g.: 1. The crowd dissented from the court’s verdict against the popular rebel music band.
2. The Maoists dissent from the government’s attitude towards the locals in Chhattisgarh, but violence is not a solution for anything.
As a noun
For e.g.: 1. Shwetha tried to manage the dissent among her team members at the company’s meeting.
2. The students murmured their dissent when the teacher announced a surprise test.
