Device – a plan or a trick used to achieve something

For e.g.:

2. Haiku poetry is a device to test a person’s wit and wisdom.

Devise – It can be used both as a verb and a noun. Both usages have different meanings. Both are explained below.

As a verb

Devise – to create a plan or agenda

For e.g.:

2. The SWAT team had to devise a careful plan to deal with the insurgents who had taken over the office building.

Devise – In legal terms, devise means to bequeath, or leave property to someone in a will.

For e.g.:

As a noun

Devise – In the legal context, devise can also be used as a noun.
