Dupont Collaborates With Reliance Industries and Vipul Saris for Eco-Friendly Indian Ethnic Wear
Indian saris have donned a green avatar with the latest initiative taken by Reliance Industries in partnership with Vipul Saris and Dupont. The three companies have joined hands to launch this unique, environment friendly product.
Indian Saris Go Green
US technology firm Dupont has just collaborated with Reliance Industries and Vipul Saris for creating its renewable fibre product Sorona for an environment friendly version of this Indian wear. Dupont currently views agriculture, food, advanced materials as well as industrial biosciences as important drivers in India spearheading close to 13% growth in the next year.
Dupont’s Vision
“India is a very strategic market for overall growth of Dupont and is about the eighth largest country globally from a revenue perspective,” DuPont president, South Asia and ASEAN, Mr. Balvinder Singh Kalsi was quoted by PTI as saying.
Based on the company’s growth expectations for the new year, he also added that Dupont holds 12 to 13 per cent growth in the year 2015. The company’s revenue figures in India were not revealed for this period however.
Dupont has identified three basic focus areas namely Industrial Biosciences, Agriculture and Food as well as Advanced Materials. The company is working towards bring sustainable and eco-friendly products into the Indian market.
Sorona Sarees
Sorona based “green” saris being produced by Dupont are an innovative revolution. “By partnering with industry veterans Reliance and Vipul, Dupont is able to bring together all the elements necessary to offer a compelling product for today’s evolved Indian consumers,” the company said in an official statement.
The sari collection has been created through a yarn of Sorona fibre developed from renewable plant based sources rather than traditional synthetic fibres sourced from fossil fuels. As per their partnership, Reliance will produce yarns from the Sorona fibres while Vipul will create the saris. “Dupont is launching the company’s product called Sorona in the saris market and we are introducing this product along with the Indian ethnic wear incorporated in to the saris,” Mr. Kalsi also said.
Reliance Polyester Sector Head Rakesh Gaur was also quoted as saying “We are pleased to bring yarns based on Sorona to the Indian textiles through this collaboration with Dupont now.”
These eco saris will be made available across 1000 stores in 100 Indian cities. “Our premium collection of saris made from Sorona offers the superior softness and colour brilliance of silk, are light weight, easy to maintain and offer excellent drape,” Vipul Fashions MD Anil Mr. Agarwal said. Dupont has pioneered fabric innovation for over 100 years and developed products such as rayon and lycra as well.
