Eligibility and exam pattern at ICAR & career prospects in Horticulture

I want to know what career options I shall have if I pursue Bachelor’s in Horticulture. Also tell me about the eligibility for admission and the pattern of entrance examination conducted by ICAR.

Horticulture is a diversified field with numerous options and job opportunities. You will have three specialities to choose from namely – Floriculturist, Olericulturist, and Pomologist. You can choose to go in the research field and work as scientists after higher studies in horticulture. You can get placed as administrator by the State agency or work as expert in the field of landscaping. There are numerous job openings for students of horticulture especially in the Government sector requiring managing and assistance positions for taking care of public gardens and other such areas.

Eligibility criteria:

• Must be a citizen of India

• Must be of 17 – 23 Years of age

• Applicant should have passed 10+2/ Intermediate / Senior Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Mathematics / Agriculture / Home Science Subjects Combination

• Applicant should have scored at least 50% in the qualifying exam. (relaxation offered for SC /SC /OBC /Handicapped)

In the entrance examination, questions shall be based on two streams – Stream A and Stream B. Stream A shall have questions from Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture/ Biology and Stream B has questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics. Best of luck!
