Fee structure of a mechanical engineering course and earning potential of mechanical engineers.

I have done my XII and will be pursuing B.E., please tell me the duration and fees for this course. Also what will be the salary package of a mechanical engineer?

B.E. / B.Tech course is of 4 years. The diploma courses in polytechnics are of 2-3 years duration. The fee is totally dependent on the type of colleges you choose. Private colleges fees range from Rs. 1,00,000/- to Rs. 2,00,000/- per year for a bachelor’s degree. In IIT’s and government aided colleges the fee varies between Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- per year. Now coming to the salary part, the salary of an individual is determined by the company/industry he or she is working in. engineers who choose to work in the private sector, could negotiate their terms and conditions with the management themselves. But the basic salary of a new hire starts at Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- per month, with incentives and allowances. Individuals with an additional management degree in addition to engineering can get salaries of Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 45,000/- per month with incentives and allowances. Also, the salary depends on the experience of an individual. An experienced person will get more salary as compared to a fresher.
