Google Partners GoI: Race Is On For PMO App
It's an “app”enning world in India right now with Google stepping in to develop a mobile application for the PMO. An application to reach the PM on time very time will be the aim of the contest and its object. Google has become a buzzword for innovation and technology and the perfect app for the PMO is the latest prize.
Given the Modi government's vision for digital India, it is only right that app development of such an important post's office be entrusted to Google. The contest is being jointly launched by Google and MyGov. The latter is a citizen engagement platform of the Indian government. The aim of the app is to ensure every citizen can now contact the PM without any hurdles. Tech savvy Indians will now get a chance to showcase their talent through this competition.
A vibrant langauge ecosystem online is another project which Google India is now undertaking. With online employment taking off, it was only time before everything else turned mobile in India too. Google's quest is to develop initiatives in collaboration with the state governments and the centre.
The Internet giant is currently working with DeitY and other state government organisations to put together these initiatives and do a lot of social good in the bargain. Consider programmes such as helping women get online or getting Indian SMEs online for one. In the interests of digital literacy and safety on the world wide web, Google is also introducing curriculums for elected representatives and officials apart from schools. The American giant is slowly finding its way into the Indian milieu in ways that make it simply indispensable to the functioning of the nation.
Rajan Anandan, VP and MD of Google India has been quoted by the media as saying, “India is already home to the third largest number of Internet users globally with 245 million users as of June 2014. We are on track to become the second largest user market by 2015 and a 500 million-user market by 2016. Yet, there are more than a billion people who will need to be brought online for India to realise the vision of a digitally connected, knowledge economy. Prime Minister Modi's Digital India programme will play a transformational role in achieving this, and we are excited to be making a meaningful contribution by rolling out several initiatives in collaboration with the Government of India.”
R. S. Sharma who is the Secretary at DeitY (Department of Electronics and Information Technology) has indicated that it is only a matter of time before others join the movement for Digital India as well. "The Digital India Program has been launched with the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. It can truly transform India and bring it on par with other developed countries. I'm happy Google is coming forward to roll out initiatives that will contribute to the Digital India vision. I'm sure others will come forward and join this moment," Sharma has been quoted as saying. This is an exciting time for Anandan and his team as well.
