Government Mobile Tourism App Is Happening

Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has launched a new mobile application for enabling travellers to download data regarding approved tour operators as well as travel agents and hotels as well as tour guides and major tourist hot-spots and attractions. The application will also give information regarding particular locations where the tourist is visiting.

The app also provides answers to queries pertaining to hotels, guides and tour operators regarding the city or destination one can reach in future. This app has been developed by the NIC or National Informatics Centre. The NIC Is under the Ministry of Tourism following the 100 day agenda of the new government.

The efforts of NIC to complete this task in 100 days has been appreciated by the Secretary for Tourism, Government of India Parvez Dewan. The new web application is part of the policy for digitisation by the government. Digital India has been riding strong and the wave is virtually tidal. Technology is slowly permeating everywhere and efforts are being made to ensure that new initiatives are operational in the real as well as the virtual world.

Dewan has also commented that the new initiative will go a long way for reassuring the tourists and creating a strong sense of confidence when dealing with service providers. He has also been quoted by the media as saying that “Although there are complaints about the services of approved service providers, the number is quite low. This application will help tourists to seek services from government approved service providers and receive quality and reliable services,” he said.

Senior Technical Director NIC Pratik Shrivastava hs been quoted as saying that the application will initially be available on Android as well as Apple phones. He has also added that the services will be made available in Windows phones over a couple of months. The benchmarking as well as the fine-tuning of the system will be done over the next few months. Regarding the platform, it has been considered scalable so more features will be added over a period of time.

The official has also said the system will be automatically updated when new features are added to the services. Travellers can download applications prior to travelling from either Google Play or Apple stores. “It is a GPS based application. It will tell the traveller places of interest around the city/destination they are stationed and they can locate exact places as the application is connection to google map,” he has also been quoted as saying.

This mobile app is being called the Incredible India mobile application. One may recall the hugely successful tourism programme promoting the same not too long back. The programme in question was also the brainchild of the Ministry of Tourism.

With technology catching on fast, people are becoming skilled at using it as well. It was only a matter of time before government departments started using this to their advantage. The Incredible India mobile app is yet another step in that direction.
