Has your career developed as you had liked?

Has your career developed as you had liked?

The agenda behind this question is to understand if there had been times of dip in your career and if you lay the blame for them on others. There’s nothing to be ashamed of if there have been short gap in your employment.

You can justify it by giving a convincing reason. Look at your qualifications and social environment and relate your achievements to them, to answer this question.

  • To dream is one thing and to achieve it is another. We do have expectations from the career of our choice. Mostly we expect big from them, the best in that field to be precise but we do give in to situations some of the times owing to various reasons. There are ups and downs that everyone goes through so you need not worry about the down part of your career graph being discussed. Be elaborate about describing the good and bad times equally. You can begin by saying that though your career did not went with the kind of expectations you had built up in the initial days but you are happy about it and that the down phase has not interfered with your motivation or dedication towards the career of your choice. You can add that you consider the bad phase as the teacher who makes sure that your learn from mistakes and move ahead with the dedication of working harder and taking better decisions. The main objective is to convince the interviewer that you never gave up despite going through the slow progress phase of career.

You might have had a long gap between the jobs or you might have taken up jobs that weren't suitable to your credentials, or any such situation where your career was in jeopardy, but the point is to convince that these phases did not bring in any negativity in you. Do not sound exasperated and never put the blame on someone else for the bad phase. You have to show that you are not holding grudges with that phase anymore and that you have moved on to become a better person.
