Have Your Say: Modi Government Launches Interactive Governance Platform For Citizens
The Modi government has launched a website entitled MyGov which will help Indian citizens to share their opinions and views on important issues such as Clean River Ganga project, skills development or other important issues. The people oriented platform has been launched following the completion of 60 days of office by the NDA government. An official statement by the PM issued to the media indicated that as many people wanted to contribute towards nation building and devote time to national issues, this website has been launched.
MyGov/mygov.nic.in will use technology to connect with the citizens according to the statement. "The platform would bridge gap gulf between people and government. Democracy cannot succeed without people's participation in government and this participation should not be limited only during elections," PM Modi was quoted by media reports as saying.
The National Informatics Centre/NIC of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology will now implement and manage the platform. Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad along with Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth and Secretary for the Department of Electronics and Information Technology R . S . Sharma were also present at the launch.
With multiple theme based discussions on MyGov available as people can share all their thoughts and ideas with the Modi government, an attempt is being to ensure that no voice goes unheard. "It is also an initiative to build a digital knowledge library. We will guide the people on the topics of national importance on which the government would like to know their views and ideas," Sharma was quoted as saying during the launch.
The platform also has "Discuss" and "Do" sections where any idea presented by a contributor will be shared on discussion forums so that valuable inputs can be gained apart from feedback and interaction. Currently, there are 6 groups on the platform - Clean Ganga, Girl Child Education, Clean India, Skilled India, Digital India and Job Creation. Sharma also explained that citizens can volunteer for tasks and this will be reviewed by members and experts. The tasks will then be shared by those who can ensure its completion.
All of the groups consist of online as well as on-ground tasks to be taken up by the contributors as the objective of each group is to ensure qualitative change in spheres through participation of the people."We will review the working on MyGov in three months and over time the number of groups, tasks and discussions will increase. The platform will also be used as a comprehensive knowledge repository," Sharma was quoted by the media as having said. The portal may even be used as a public audit platform for providing comments about infrastructure projects at a later date.
