The satellite was expected to be launched using the GSLV Mk-II but INSAT-3D was launched by a European rocket Ariane 5 from the spaceport of Kourou in French Guiana. Main aim of the INSAT-3D mission is the provision of high quality observations for monitoring as well as prediction of weather events and study of the climate.

Tiger Census 2015 was carried out by Bangladesh-India Joint Tiger Census Project under the Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Wildlife Protection in Asia Project with funding from WB. As per this Tiger Census, the number of tigers in Bangladesh region of the Sunderbans has declined from 440 in 2004 to 106 in 2015
