Indian Airlines, as we all know is a renowned company in the aviation sector and has been into operations since 1953. Initially in 1953 it was under the umbrella of Indian Airlines Corporation and in 1953 was renamed as Indian Airlines. In the start of its operations, the airline was based in Delhi and operated majorly on domestic routes only and a few international flights travelling to neighbouring countries in Asia.
The selection procedure of Indian Airlines begins with a written test and lastly followed by a HR round of interview. The written test is conducted to test the candidate’s problem solving skills & time management skills. The written test contains questions on the Indian Airlines technical interview questions, verbal and non - verbal reasoning and general aptitude questions. The written test was also divided into two papers, in paper I, there were again 2 sections containing around 150 questions that were poised in front of the students to be completed in 90 minutes. Section I consisted of 75 questions and the questions were based on general knowledge, current affairs, quantitative aptitude, analytical reasoning and Section II including 75 questions based on MBA syllabus from topics like Marketing, HR, and Mass - Media. The questions in section II were multiple choice questions.
Paper II was a descriptive paper containing 4 sections each containing 3 questions from Marketing, Mass – media and HR topics from the MBA syllabus. You will be having choice to attempt any 6 questions by choosing at least one question from each section. In Paper II you get only 60 minutes to complete the paper. Luckily there is no negative marking involved.
Once you clear the written test based on the evaluation you are then preceded towards the HR interview round. The HR interview round takes place to measure the interpersonal skills, ability to work under stressful situations, leadership qualities, ability to take the right decision at the right time and last but not the least communication skills of the candidate. The HR interview questions mainly focus on the personal and educational background of the candidate. Questions based on how much does the candidate know about the company, why he wants to join Indian Airlines, Aims and goals of the candidate.
At times when the management finds it necessary they do conduct a Group Discussion round. The group Discussion contains topic on current affairs to be discussed in a group of 8 – 10 people. This is usually done to screen the candidates to get a niche group of candidates for the final round of interview. The Group discussion round is conducted to analyse the listening abilities of the candidate and of course the communication skills of the candidate as well.
Usually the questions observed in the interview of an aviation industry company are:
• Describe some details about yourself.
• Have you had to face with an emergency, if yes how did you manage to deal with it?
• What are your goals?
• Why do you want to join the aviation industry?
• Why should we hire you? What new addition will you bring to the company?
• Where do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
• If you happen to find your captain drinking before a flight, how would you handle the situation?
• If you find any passenger smoking or you smell smoke in the cockpit, how would you deal with the situation?
• Define balanced field length (for Pilot)
• Due to medical reasons you will be unable to fly, how will you cope up with the situation and what shall be your plan of action?
• Why do you want to become a pilot, give reason other than good pay?
• On a scale of 1 – 10. Where 1 being the lowest, rate yourself in terms of communication skills, dependability and integrity.
• What are the reasons that can make you a bad pilot and a great pilot?
• Discuss briefing of an instrument approach to minimums.
• Explain V one.
• If you find the aircraft overloaded way beyond the gross pit, and yet the pilot is planning to fly the aircraft, how would you stop him from doing this?
• Will you be able to manage to fly a morning flight on a daily basis?
• How will you feel if your career in aviation is progressing but on a very slow pace?
• Who is your mentor who influenced you to join aviation industry?
