India’s largest nuclear power plant laid in Haryana


PM of India Dr.Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone for the nuclear power project of 2800 MWe in Fatehabad(Haryana ) with a cost of 23,502-crorein the presence of CM of Haryana Bhoopinder Singh Hoodda. It is named as Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP). The project has received clearance from Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) headed by S.S. Bajaj. The nuclear power project would be set up with four reactors of 700-MW each by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL). The water for the plant would be used from Bhakra dam as proposed by the government. It would also be the country’s largest nuclear power plant. This a step further to achieve the target of 27000 MWE of nuclear power capacity for India in the next 10 years. As of now there are 20 operational nuclear power plants in India producing 4780 MW(which is 2.9% of the installed base).
