Is a relationship serious only when you go official about it on Social Media?

Introduction

Social Media is enjoying the limelight in the present era. Every recent update is well preached, spread and conveyed on a grand scale by means of social media. The social networking sites have made the world come closer, and have got their hands on every aspect of human life. Be that be business, or friendship, or social circle or family; every relationship is getting its valuation through the various posts on these sites. The pictures and videos represent the closeness of the couples. Gone are the days when privacy was preferred between the couples, and they hardly tried to project their closeness before the world. The relationship have their true value only through the undue projection through the posts and announcements on these social networking sites. Is that really that much important for a relationship to get on screen and display their chemistry? Is a relationship serious only when you go official about it on Social Media? Let's see -

Yes

- People are getting more social and they interact well with their family members in this social networking range. They like to develop their relationship through the social sites in comparison to spending time in person. So, making an official annoucement through Social Media is as good as telling the family personally about it.

- The seriousness of the relationship can be well established when the same is revealed in front of the world, so social media is of most importance.

- The more serious one gets involved into the relationship, the more they discuss the same with their near and dear ones. As we are living in a world where the life is totally dependent on the social networking sites, so the official notification really holds importance to value the relationship.

- Social media has made the life blissful with close interaction with everyone irrespective of the distance in physical world. Every true relationship is getting developed and flourished through these sites.

- When a relationship is accepted publically by partner, it definitely adds to the secure feelings of another partner.

No

- Life doesn’t end with social media. People should understand the extent of usage of technology, and value the relationship in physical world over the media and technology.

- Privacy is a very important factor in the lives of the couples. True relations gets blossomed with close interaction and conversation in the extent of privacy and not with the loud announcements through the notifications and posts on facebook and other sites.

- Relationships are true when they can understand each other. The social media can only help in advice and suggestions but we can hardly find these people coming and standing next to us in our defence when required. So, we can not determine the depth of a relationship by its disclosure on social media.

- There are many Indians who don’t know the use of social media till date. It doesn’t mean that their life has ended or they don’t deserve a happy living. Life never stops with the social media. It is just a tool to share our happiness and agony and let out our emotions.

- Posting the pictures and videos and sharing them with friends can add up to the joy of a happy living, whereas they cannot be taken as a definition of a healthy and happy life. Every picture clicked is not true in its feeling. Pictures and presentations are mere projections in the artificial world and hold no relevance with the reality.

- Some introvert kind of people may not want to make their relationship public unless it is socially and legally recognised. We can not doubt the seriousness of such relationships.

Conclusion

Relationships have their value with respect to the feelings and emotions within the human souls and it has nothing to do with the social media. What social media has done is to helped us remain in touch with our near and dear ones to share our emotions. This has helped a bit in revealing the inner thrust and get over the psychological outbursts. These things are not symbolic representations of a happy living. Relationships are like a garland knitted with beautifully chosen flowers. It blossoms with true feelings and exchange of thoughts in the extent of privacy. The line when the limits get broken, we get out to the verge of shamelessness and lose our culture and value of a rich lifestyle. Hence, it is very important to live the relationship with trust and understanding rather than mitigating it in front of the world.

  • Today we are living in the age of internet where the social media has become the preferred platform for expressing and sharing our personal thoughts with others. We like to chat, talk and interact with a whole range of people including friends as well as strangers. People especially youth is devoting more and more time to the social media. These social sites have become the source of information about the personal and professional life on an individual. So according to many, a person should mention his state of relationship on such social media. But does it mean that only mentioning about relationship on social media reflects its seriousness?

    Yes:

-As individuals already reflecting their lives different traits and aspects through these social media, then there’s no point of hiding about their relationship.

-Being in a relationship and not going official about it reflects the lack of trust in the relationship.

-Also, if one is not going official then it shows that that person has assigned the relationship a lower priority vis-à-vis other stuffs he/she doing on social media.

-Going official about a relationship shows that when it comes to relationship you are blessed and don’t want to indulge in a new relation.

-If you share everything about your life with your friends on social media then you must share about your relationship too. This will give the impression of your seriousness about that relation to your friends.

-Being in a relation makes you feel good and happy, and sharing it with your friends on social sites amplified this happiness.

-Going official about relation tells your partner that you are not cheating by utilizing the social platform for seeing someone else in spite of being in a relation.

    No:

-An individual’s profile on is his/her personal domain or space on social media. It’s up to that individual what he/she wants to go official about it.

-For many people relationship is a private affair. And they want to be selective in mentioning about it. Going official means all friends on the social site will come to know about their relation.

-Social media is not only about friends but strangers too. So, these strangers may use this information for their own benefits.

-Many individuals sole purpose on social media is to build up a strong professional network. In such scenarios there is no need to go official about relationship status.

-Relationships are about the understanding and emotional attachment between partners which have nothing to deal with the declaration on social media.

-Many Parents and family members in our society don’t like pre marriage relations of their children. So, to avoid their parents disliking many individuals don’t go official about their relations.

-Relationship requires mutual consent of partners and it’s a matter of choice. So, it doesn’t require certification by going official.

-Relationships are real world phenomenon and exist physically. So, one cannot judge seriousness of a real world relation through virtual world.

    Conclusion:

Keeping in view these arguments we can suggest that declaring relations officially on social media is up to the choice of individuals. No one can guarantee that relations having official declaration will be long lasting. It’s the decision of the couple in a relationship whether they want to go official about it or not. If someone doesn’t want to go official then it doesn’t define his or her non seriousness about the relation.
