Is All The Fuss Over A PM’s Suit Justified?

When Prime Minster wore a pinstripe bandhgala suit in his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, he didn’t know that his suit would result in a debate across the nation. The suit was not a normal suit as it had his name embroidered all over it. Here, among all the controversy comes a thought, why the entire nation is making a fuss about it? Is this debate over a PM justified?

Yes

- We live in a democratic nation, and if we praise for the good stuff, then we also have a right to criticize what we think as irrational.

- Wearing a suit with a name embroidered on it is not a small matter, and is shockingly narcissistic. Such an attitude of an individual, who is an icon of many people, will attract criticism.

- It is said action speaks louder than words. Then why PM or anyone else needs to wear a suit with name embroidered all over it. Indians will appreciate if the PM guides them in right direction.

- Celebrities and politicians are extra-ordinary people in the eyes of common man. These are the people who will always stay in limelight and there every step will attract controversy.

- The PM’s sartorial taste has been praised in India and abroad. And, why not, after all what you wear is a part of personality.

No

- PM is also a normal person who has a right to wear the clothes of his choice. All the debate over such a topic is irrational.

- Even there are many fields like sports, airlines, hotels where the professionals have their name on the dress. No one ever calls them narcissistic.

- It is the time to focus on the various other aspects where PM is performing or underperforming. A suit will not drive any nation.

- Let us see the phrase action speaks louder than words from other perspective. Why there is a need to talk about a dress, instead it is the time to debate over other important stuff. Forget the written words and focus on actions.

- Even Hosni Mubarak, the former Egyptian President used to wear suits with his name imprinted on them.

Conclusion

The life of celebrities and politicians will always remain in limelight. However, making a fuss just over PM’s suit is not justified. The opposition parties never praise Modi kurta or his fashion style, whereas the world recognizes it. It is a not a big issue, and just because his suit has his name embroidered on it, doesn’t make him self-proclaimed or a megalomaniac.

  • I think its wastage of time to discuss about this issue when we have so much more important to discuss about. A celebrity is a human first, he should have freedom of his actions unless he is not harming anybody. Also as said by his spokespersons that this suit was not purchased or made by his own interests, it was gifted by one of his follower.
So we have to stop to make fuss about anything and stop criticise.

  • I would like to draw the attention of those people who are criticising PM for putting too much cost for his embroided. I agree he would have invested . and the suit had costed in max to max 10 lakhs..but at the same time when he put the same suit for auction it was bid upto 1.21 crore which he told that the amount will be invested in beti bachao beti padhao andolan.
if he is putting his valuables for auction and inturn using the funds for major projects then I think he is stepping on the correct path which will lead India to great success

  • Yes,he is our PM.But that doesn't mean he cannot wear a suit with is name printed on it.
By wearing such, it does not reflect any kind of image in this limelight. It is just our attitude to criticize it or not. Being a democratic nation does not mean we can restrict any celebrities by wearing what they wish to.
By the way, a nice topic to discuss on.
    Thank you.

  • I think yes...it is obvious to debate on this very matr...being the PM of India..it doesnt suit on him to invest such a huge amount on his embroidered suit...is sctually not justified.doing such thing somewhat spoils his image in our mind......he should not forget Bapu's line "Simple living and high thinking..."

  • When we have to get ready for an important event , we wanted to wear something exclusive.
So, for Modi, that was an important day too & the designer who created it has obviously put in a great effort.
If we are feeling great that Michelle Obama had worn an outfit designed by an Indian then here why we are neglecting the effort.

Obviously it was a personal decision to look presentable but it had create a lot of attention and name worldwide , hence solved the purpose. Ya the cost could have been lesser but 10 lkhs alone wouldnt have solved alone all India's problems. Moreover, Modi is doing his best to develop India financially. Only a suit can't referred him as a narcissist.

  • PM’s suit is definitely not a big topic calling for such a discussion in a nation where we have hot debatable topics blooming up every now and then. PM is again a normal human being who have a distinct taste of his own, as any other person on earth. If he has found himself befitting in a suit embroidered with his name, then we should rather talk of his dressing consciousness and a vivid outlook of presentation.

PM is a bit important as a national personality. And when this comes to Mr. Modi, it is well understood that he is an ideal for many with a long fan list who would prefer to follow his imprints. It is fine for the PM to spend such a huge amount on his outfit, but the same could not be everyone’s cup of tea. Even if others go ahead taking such a huge expense, then it would be an utter wastage of this huge amount over a dress when the same could have been used for some good valuable project helping the humanity and developing the nation.

Though the cost factor remains one point to be considered, again the cost spent should have delivered some goodies which would be the proper utilization of the efforts put in to create his dress. When we analyse the same with this aspect, then yes, as expected Mr. Modi has got a ‘plus factor’ here as well. He could get the attention of not only the citizens of the country, but also the world. Rightly said, he was able to project our nation to get us to the limelight through his dress. There could have been a small alteration in the wordings; if Mr. Modi could have added the name of our motherland India, along with his name, it would have been far more charming and the outlook of the masses would have been far more dignified with respect to his outfit.

  • As a prime minister he is the representative of INDIA. If his suit is in the focus in the world that means INDIA is also in the focus of the World. We should proud on his dress as it prove We are not in a state of negligence. The time has come Now INDIA will Lead the World.
