It is the time to restructure Indian Olympics Association
India, the country and its citizens are feeling disgraced as the IOA secretary General Rajeev Mehta and wrestling referee Virender Malik were arrested in Glasgow for different reasons. Rajeev Mehta was alleged with the charges of drink and drive while Virender Malik faced serious charges of sexual assault. Although both the persons have got a clean chit from the Glasgow Magistrate's Court, still the question arises on the dignity of the country. Do you think it is the time to restructure Indian Olympics Association?
Yes
• Indian Olympics association has always failed to adhere with the rules and regulations of the International Olympic Committee.
• After a long time, the country got a relief from the Olympic ban at the start of this year and the recent case again questions the quality of people recruited in IOA.
• The past shows that IOA has stayed the favorite place of the high profile people who have been charged with several crimes. If the same trend continues, Indian players will suffer in the long run.
• India should not appoint the officials who don’t even know how to behave themselves on an international platform.
• Rajeev Mehta was alleged of transferring the government funds to his personal accounts and still he was appointed as the secretary General of IOA.
• If the officials have not committed any crime, then they should file a defamation case. Why are they scared of taking any action?
No
• The ban from Indian Olympics association was lifted after India fulfilled the necessary requirements kept by International Olympic Committee. So, no more changes are required.
• Some or the other problems keep on happening on the international arena. It doesn’t indicate that any restructuring is required.
• Restructuring should have been valid in the case if the two persons were proved to be guilty. But they were released by the Glasgow Magistrate's Court.
• It is the results that matter the most. And, in the commonwealth games India won 65 medals and stood at fifth place.
• If there is any serious problem in the internal structure it will be reported by the participants’ athletes. As of now, no problem against the administrators is registered.
Conclusion
Rajeev Mehta and Virender Malik are set free. But that doesn’t end the problem. It is a high time to create a change in the internal structure of Indian Olympics Association. There is a need to analysis why at the first place Indian officials got arrested? Why the Indian Olympics Association faced a ban from International Olympic Committee? Still after suffering from Olympic ban, it seems IOA has not learnt any lessons. If it continues, the ultimate losers will be the talented Olympic players who will not get an opportunity to show their talent in future.

- The restructuring of the Indian Olympic Association is definitely a point to be thought of. It is not only the scene created in the recent plays by two of the officials of the association, but the matter also gets its root from the Olympic ban that Indian Olympic Association has faced. Despite providing the infrastructure and potential sportsmen, we are not able to excel in the Olympics. To the worst, our players are often charged for foul plays like positive doping tests. All these just add to the defamation of the country along with the players.
Though our officials have been released without any charges by the magistrate, still the arrest was enough to defame the country and affect our pride. The number of medals won at the Olympics is not the only matter to be proud about. But the actual pride remains in the honest and modest mode of playing the game. The due respect is received by the manner we behave and follow the rules and ethics of the game.
The players do have the moral responsibility of maintaining discipline and following the game rules and regulations, but that doesn’t give the liberty to the association members to disobey the ethics and moral conduct. All these foul plays and irresponsible behaviour calls for the restructuring of the Indian Olympics Association.
