Kiss of Love - Do you support the movement?

Kiss of Love campaign is a non-violent movement started to show the wrath against moral policing. The movement started in Kerala and gradually was followed by people in other states of the country. The debate on the eastern values and western culture, tradition and modernity, limits and liberty has risen to new peaks in the past few years. Self-proclaimed defenders of tradition and culture are trying to define a woman’s place in the Indian society. As per them, they are the custodians of culture and need to guide the women who have lost their way. However, the youth of today doesn’t agree with them, and therefore, started with Kiss of Love campaign. So, do you support the movement?

Yes

• The custodians of culture need an open challenge and the campaign is the warning that the real objective of them should be safety of women, not the attacks on the women.

• The campaign started on Facebook and now has become a mass protest. The awareness is there, and that is what a protest stands for.

• The problem with the custodians of culture is not preservation of Indian culture but to stop inter-religious and self-made relationships. The campaign will let them know youth are not bounded by any boundaries.

• The parties just use any means to fulfill their communal agenda, and youth have every right to reply them in the same way.

• Media is power, and the kiss of love campaign is covering and it providing it with the much needed hype. It will help the youth to stand together for their rights.

No

• The youth of today has got the freedom to protest against the wrong, but they cannot follow a wrong path to justify themselves.

• The kiss of love campaign is completely against the moral values of the Indian society and will leave a negative impact on the society.

• Even if the youth have just held hands and protested, the objective of protest would have been achieved. Kissing in public is the extreme form of protest that brings shame to the Indian society.

• The campaign is not spreading the message of innocuous love but is spreading the message of getting physical in public.

• The campaign in no way is showing the support for inter-caste relationships. It is just flaunting the western culture.

• Following the western culture, youth of today needs freedom to be in a relationship, but what about getting independent after the age of 18 years, which is mandatory in the western countries.

Conclusion

The so-called custodians of Indian culture have always done wrong to the youngsters. They have adopted wrong paths to support moral policing. However, the kiss of love campaign is no different from their protest. It is a low form of protest that is only supporting flaunting of love in open places. The need is to evolve Indian culture with pride, rather than copying the distorted ideas. The youths should have adopted a better way to show their protest. In the process, the dignity of love and respect of their parents and Indian culture is lost.

  • The movement Kiss of Love has been initiated with a right instinct, but the implementation of the same is not all that acceptable. The view which covers the initiation of the movement to oppose the custodians of the culture is correct. But it should have been more decent approach or better way of portrayal of the opposition to hold the masses to walk in their support.

By opposing the custodians of the culture doesn’t mean that our culture lacks the good values to be opposed or it requires any transformation, but the point to be emphasized is that the people who think themselves to be the custodians of the same should understand that the culture doesn’t lay any script to have an evil eye on good friendship between the two genders. Good and evil starts from the mind which hampers the brain. Our culture provides the limitations for a happy and healthy living which is understood otherwise, and brutality and cruelty paves-in in-order to hold the line of demarcation hard and fast.

Kiss of love could have portrayed as a mass movement showing the living examples of couples who had love marriage, or a healthy friendship bond between girls and boys, the importance and requirement of interaction and socializing between the genders in present era. The approach would have more modest with lot many supporters if the movement didn’t take a sharp turn of kissing in public. Even if we leave the westernization of culture apart, still kissing is more of a private affair for any human being. Though the action could be the way to show simple affection for anyone, still it could turn counter-wise.

Thus, to be precise, the movement should change its approach to have a mass support and gain success in reality.

  • Though the Kiss of Love campaign started for a good cause i.e. to protest against moral policing of young couples it has taken a form of more of a publicity stunt as that of Ice Bucket Challenge. I personally feel that the campaign does not needs such a form of protest because it only spreads a wrong message among teenagers and children. Supporters of this campaign justify their actions by saying they are not causing any harm and theirs is a symbolic protest but what about tomorrow people start having sex in public to protest against moral policing? Such an act can also be justified that sex is not causing harm to the society. I strongly condemn blindly copying western culture and I want to ask a simple question do these campaigners kiss or smooch in front of their parents in their living room? Do they have the guts to make love in front of their parents? I support the essence of the campaign but the methodologies used in this campaign are against our culture and values which have been instilled in us by our parents. So though the vision of the campaign is commendable , the campaign looks more of a publicity stunt rather than an act of protest

  • Firstly, I would like to enlighten my folks that the "Kiss of Love" campaign was not meant to promote inter-caste or inter-religion marriages but it was only a peaceful protests against the gruesome acts of moral policing undertaken by the self proclaimed 'Indian culture protectionists'.
Secondly, it was not something led by only the student community but their were professionals involved too.

The kiss of love is no act of rebellion because as per the Supreme Court of the country, kissing and hugging in public is not an act of obscenity. Infact nudity in public is one among the defined obscene acts and still there are spiritual followers who walk around nude in the country but are never tried for this illegal behaviour. The reason simply being that there are religious sentiments attached to it.
The whole idea of the influence of western culture and preservation of Indian culture is a political gimmick to keep the country hooked on to its religious sentiments so that the same can be invoked and used when there is a political agenda to be fulfilled.

Lets face it folks. India is a land where amorous carvings grace the walls of its temples and we preserve them as our heritage. If that is not obscene then expressing our love for someone in public is also not.

  • kiss of love! is the campaign done by the students or youth of India
I'm also a student i oppose way of showing your message. India is the country where people of different religions live! I support the idea of the kiss of love that is to encourage inter religion and inter cast marriage. it can be done by doing marriage to the people who are in love and showing the people who has already done their inter cast or religion marriage and banished by the society but they are leading their happy life. But they have shown the impact of Western culture on us. Continue the campaign which shows the power of Indian youth and reflect the culture of India but not the other countries.
