Learn table manners to be a part of globalization?

In the last few years the eating styles and eating tastes of Indian people have changed considerably. Call it modernization or a part of globalization, but things are changing at a faster pace. In this fast changing scenario table manners are often linked with globalization. Do you think that table manners play an important role in globalization and people should pay more focus on developing their table manners?

Yes

• It is important to walk with the change. People who don’t walk with the changing world are often termed as losers.

• There is no problem in adapting to simple changes like speaking at moderate volume, saying the courtesy words and not making a mess.

• Food is about spending some quality time with family where there should be no space for electronic items. Table manners teach you to keep aside your electronic items aside and focus solely on food.

• Learning the new eating styles and techniques can help the people to adopt in any kind of situation and in any country.

• Following proper table manners teaches you to behave in a much disciplined way.

No

• There is neither any need nor any obligation to replicate the world. You can live as you want.

• Table manners are only pretensions to show off that you are in higher category in the social plans.

• People are different, cultures are different and so how can uniform codes can be formed for all the people.

• There is no space for such kind of rules and sacrificing freedom in a globalizing world. Globalizing does not mean change the way you live and eat.

• In the latest development finger licking is considered as a fashion. The new trend is brought by Debrett who is considered as the go-to guide for etiquette.

• What one culture may find the proper table manners might be considered as ugly and improper by other culture. Learn to respect the variety.

Conclusion

It’s true that things are changing but that doesn’t means that globalization should change everything about you and your country. It’s ok to learn new things. However, giving up to new culture completely was never and will never be a good idea.

  • Table manners have become a modern culture and an important aspect of the civilized society. People are more into the sophisticated high class life style than portraying their true self. Table manners are exhibiting a discipline in the eating area with a lot many restrictions towards the same.

Rather than having a full liberty in your life, creating a hard core restriction for yourself, just to show others the royal tag you have is really a silly way of leading life. We get life only once to live to our fullest. We have to decide how to make every moment precious in our life. Restriction ourselves even at our privacy time is not a very encouraging thing.

But in this fast moving life, everybody makes sure to run along the line following the same path as the ants do, without knowing the final destination. So are the table manners important for the majority to stay and live with those in the line towards making money, roaming worldwide and flow with their customs and traditions.

For every person who feels the interaction with the international society as the priority of their life, table manners definitely play a critical role. And this is the bitter truth that majority being into the same pace, this table manners has to be learnt as a part of the globalization.
