NAM Cure For Patients: National AYUSH Mission Approved For Launch
The National AYUSH mission/NAM has been approved for launch following its approval by the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The National AYUSH Mission with its core and flexible components is now set for a speedy launch. Gaps in health services will be addressed through the proposed Mission. This mission will also speed up the efforts of the State/UT governments for providing health services and education in the field of AYUSH which stands for Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
The aim is also to spread the education and services for AYSUH across the country especially in the remote and isolated regions of the nation. The special focus of this mission will be for catering to the needs of these areas through AYUSH and allocating more resources to the same in the Annual plans as well. The Mission is aiming to fulfil numerous objectives.
The first important goal is the improvement of AYUSH education through increase in the count of upgraded educational institutions and institutes. Another important aim of the mission is to increase the number of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy clinics, hospitals and dispensaries in the nation. An effort is also being made for the increase and improvement in the availability of medicine and manpower for the same.
The AYUSH Mission is also aiming for sustained availability of quality raw material for AYUSH systems of medicine. Another aim is to increase the number of medicines in the field of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy through improved facilities and an increase in the number of drug labs for the same. An increase in the number of pharmacies that supply these drugs along with improved enforcement mechanisms is also slated as part of the mission.
Preventative and promotive health care through AYUSH has long since been part of the culture and tradition of India. Ancient Indian sages derived Ayurveda medicines from the herbs and plants from biodiversity hotspots such as the Himalayan regions to cure people of many ills. AYUSH medicine system has developed because of the low cost of such medicines as well as greater potential to make them part of the health care system on account of their positive effectiveness and impact.
The diversity and flexibility of the AYUSH medicine system as well as its accessibility and affordability have been given as additional motivations for the AYUSH Mission as per the official press release of the government. Health care is an area where many concerns are rising and the AYUSH mission has the capability to address them.
With rise in pollution levels, respiratory diseases, cold and cough have become commonplace now. With the use of AYUSH medicines, people can be saved from a lot of ailments that bother them and hamper their productivity and quality of life.
This is a good initiative and it is heartening to know that steps have been taken for the approval of the mission. Diseases can be alleviated through promotion of the AYUSH system.
