- HP Government has recently launched the Rajiv Gandhi Illuminating Scheme for Hill Town Advancement/RISHTA
- This makes HP the first state in North India to promote an efficient LED based street lighting project
- Scheme is also called CCMS/Centralised Control and Monitoring System Smart Street Lighting Scheme for Urban Local bodies
- This implemented the LED based street lighting project
- Project is being implemented by state urban development department in partnership with EESL
- EESL is a JV formed by 4 power companies namely NTPC, PGCIL, PFC and REC
- EESL will invest capital upfront for implementing the project
- Municipalities will make payments regarding investment to EESL over a duration of 7 years
- These payments will be made from energy cost savings as a result of energy efficient LED lighting installations
- This project will lead to 63484 street lights being replaced by LEDs in ULBs
- This is projected to result in energy savings of 45 to 55 percent
- Total savings within one year of operation and maintenance will amount to INR 6.5 crore
Scheme will be implemented in the following cities:
- Shimla,
- Dharamsala,
- Sundernagar,
- Paonta Sahib,
- Ghumarwin
- Manali.
- Remaining tows of HP will be lighted before the close of the 2016 fiscal
- This scheme was launched as a tribute to former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary
