Reliance Jio Infocomm Signs Tower Sharing Deal With Ascend

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has just signed a tower-sharing deal with Ascend. The communications giant now has access to 110,000 telecom towers across the country. This communication and internet arm of the Reliance Industries Limited has just signed a deal with Ascend Telecom Infrastructure Private Limited. RIL now has access to 4,500 towers of Ascend spread across as many as 20 telecom service areas in over 26 Indian states.

This is the fifth tower-sharing deal signed by Reliance Jio Infocomm and it is of a considerably smaller magnitude than the others. Excitement now builds up for the launch of 4G high speed telecom services in the latter part of the next year. On 4th March, Reliance Jio Infocomm had signed an agreement with leading telecom service provider Bharti Airtel to use its 82,000 towers for the 4G services. This was followed by a collaboration with Viom Networks on March 17 th use its 42,000 towers.

It was on 21st April that RIL's Reliance Jio Infocomm signed an agreement with ARC for 11,000 telecom towers. Reliance Jio Infocomm has also entered into a service agreement with Reliance Communications Limited for sharing city fibre network infrastructure. It has also clinched a deal with Israel-based Tower Vision for access to 8,400 telecom towers.

Reliance Jio Infocomm currently has pan-India 20 MHz for the below 2,300 MHz broadband wireless access spectrum in 22 service areas. Around 5 to 7 MHz spectrum under the 1800 MHz in 14 circles is another achievement for Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has quite a few milestones ahead of it. It is planning to use 1,800 MHz spectrum along with the pan-India 2,300 MHz spectrum for seamless, uninterrupted 4G services on a 2,300 MHz via an integrated system, according to the company's annual report released on 18th May.

Considerable discussion has been carried on in the past as to whether India is ready for 4G and the impact that it can have on the communication services industry. Fourth generation wireless internet can contribute to creating a countrywide network and access to services. With online shopping and e-commerce catching on fast and giving stiff competition to retail stores, the idea of faster and uninterrupted internet will be more than appealing to customers across the country.

Apart from this, internet is being increasingly used for entertainment purposes as well. Many people prefer to catch up on the news while surfing sites from their cell phone rather than switching on a television channel. In an age where time is money and money is a religion for many, 4G will literally be a boon. With moves to capture online space and spur the growth and development of a 4G network even in remote or rural areas, Reliance Jio Infocomm has taken the right step.
