Thank you very much for your thoughtful invitation to attend the Influential Business Person Awards on 1st April 2014 at the Hyatt Hotel.

With great regret I have to inform you that due to a previous conflicting engagement, I would be unable to attend the awards on 1st April 2014. Since it is the financial year ending I cannot back out from my prior commitments. Otherwise like each I would have loved to be a part of such a prestigious event.

I hope you understand my reason for not attending your event and I assure you that I will make sure that I attend your awards next year.

Thank you again for your kind invitation and wish you the very best of luck with what I'm sure will be a very successful evening.

Sample declination letter to a social event or invitation

This is with reference to your invitation for Woman Day’s celebration to be held at Birla Matoshree Hall on 8th March to honor socially active ladies in our city.

This effort by rotary club, Thane to appreciate and honor efforts of leading women in our society is highly commendable and were looking forward to be a part of such event and make it a success

However due to some unforeseen circumstances I will have to fly out of India to attend a family emergency tomorrow .And hence it will not be possible for me to attend the event on Woman’s day. I thank you for considering me for this opportunity to grace a social event in the city.
I assure that my best efforts to attend the next event on your social calendar and make a generous contribution from my side
