"I am very happy; it's great to win it with Bruno. For the first time we played together, it's been great two weeks” the tennis player said.
She also said"I am extremely ecstatic, it's a dream come true, hopefully many more will come. “ “I don't think we should focus on the negatives,” she said when asked about the Telangana controversy wherein she came under attack from politicians for saying she was the “daughter-in-law” of Pakistan because she is married to a Pakistani cricketer. Under attack for proving her Indianness then, Sania has given a reply to all her detractors through her latest win which she dedicated to India.
Sania Mirza is currently the first Indian female player and the third to have won Grand Slam titles after Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes. Of the tough moments in the US Open game where she played alongside Bruno, Sania said “We play very good games which suit each other. We all had our hearts in our mouths at that point but we just tried to be positive and do whatever we could, help each other out and come out on top.
“We happened to meet after Wimbledon and he asked if we could play. Bruno and I had different partners, we messaged each other, spoke to each other and one thing led to another. Definitely winning any Slam is great, if it happens that would be great, I look forward to it and will complete a career Grand Slam one day." added Sania.
