School of Planning and Architecture Entrance Examination – SPA FAQs


1. What is the examination for? Who conducts it?


School of Planning and Architecture are higher education institutions for Architecture. These are public colleges and come under Ministry of Human Resource Development which is powered directly by Indian Government. You can get admission in this college through JEE Main.

2. What is/are the college/colleges covered under this examination?


School of Planning and Architecture is responsible for providing UG, PG and Doctoral degrees. As such there are 3 SPAs in India:

- School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal
- School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada

3. How to apply for SPA?


There is no separate examination conducted by the institute itself.
The selection procedure is based on merit marks obtained by the students in JEE Mains. The candidate is needed to appear in the B.Arch. examination of JEE. The students then can choose SPA as a choice among their preferred colleges in the JEE counselling.

4. What is the eligibility criterion?


For being eligible in SPA, the candidate must:

1. Be Indian national citizen.
2. Have scored at least 50% aggregate in 10+2 in CBSE or equivalent board.
3. Have Mathematics as a subject.

5. What is the examination pattern of SPA Entrance?


SPA Entrance is based on JEE Mains Paper 2 i.e. for Architecture/ Planning Courses.
The paper consists of 3 sub parts:



This is an offline exam. There is negative marking in some segments and 1/4th of the allotted marks are deducted in case of a wrong answer.

6. What is the generalised selection procedure?


As mentioned earlier, selection in SPA is based on JEE Main.
Usually JEE Main is held on first week of April every year. Following the counselling of Architecture/Planning courses, students can opt for SPA as their desired preference once clearing all the eligibility conditions.

7. What are the courses offered in SPA?



There are 2 types of Undergraduate programmes offered in SPA, the total number of seats accounts to 104.

74 seats are reserved for 5 years Bachelor of Architecture course.

20 seats are reserved for 4 years Bachelor of Planning course.

There is no separate application form for SPA. The admission procedure takes place through JEE Main.

9. What reference books should be consulted?


Mathematics preparation should be at par with JEE Mains Paper 1 mathematics preparation. There are no particular books that need to be suggested for Aptitude and Drawing. You can however consult past years examination papers for the same. Your drawing and visualising skills should be immense to excel in this examination.
