Seeing is Believing: Zync Acquired By Google

Internet search engine giant Google has just acquired Zync. The latter is a firm that ensures complex visual effects and sequences are rendered through cloud platforms. Predictably, the financial details of the deal were not disclosed. What was disclosed was that Zync will now be part of the Cloud Platform team of Google. The addition of Zync to Google is in sync with its efforts to cater to “studios the rendering performance and capacity they need, while helping them manage costs” in the words of Google product manager Belwadi Srikanth.

Zync Render is known for having developed visual effects studio Zero VFX which has scored big through numerous films such as American Hustle and Lopper. Zync has also scripted the visual effects in numerous commercials and ads. In all, it has developed over 6.5 million core hours worth of special effects.

Zync processes visual effects sequences using costly render farms with “per-minute billing studios” that are not trapped for paying for unused capacity when rendering needs do not fit into perfect hour increments. Zync was founded in 2011 and it promotes Amazon's Elastic Computer Cloud hosting platform while it declared that EC2 is the only public cloud meeting or exceeding MPAA security requirements along with a Best Practices rating award.

Zync has been designed to never lose sync with the benefits and flexibilities inherent in cloud computing through a user-friendly package. Its visual effects studio Zero VFX has been designed to provide the best visual effects through a cloud computing platform.

“Since its inception at visual effects studio Zero VFX nearly five years ago, Zync was designed to not only leverage the benefits and flexibilities inherent in cloud computing but to offer this in a user-friendly package” and “this history with the scale and reliability of Google Cloud Platform will help us offer an even better service to our customers — including more scalability, more host packages and better pricing (including per-minute billing). With a friction-free, affordable, and elastic rendering solution, visual designers and artists in the industry can continue to do their best work” according to an official statement released to the media by Zync.

Zync is the latest firm which Google is adding to its portfolio. It has also purchased 26 other companies during this year according to some media estimates.

Zync may have had an Amazon connection but it is now going to leave that behind and move on to greener pastures. Google is not complaining given the huge advantages the Zync acquisition holds for it. If Amazon has Twitch, Google has Zync.

The Twitch acquisition came as a surprise to the market analysts as word was out that Google was on the prowl for it. Amazon is concentrating on a new area which brings gamers into the equation. Google too went for the skies (or is the clouds) with Zync. The battle of the Titans just got more interesting.
