Should Baba Ramdev get z-category security?
In the latest news, the home ministry has granted Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev with Z-category security. Under Z-security Baba Ramdev will receive security protection of more than 30 armed guards. Also, he will be provided with an escort car. The Yoga exponent will be covered by para-military commandos. They are special commandos from the Central Reserve Police force. Government will spend a huge chunk of taxpayers’ money on Baba Ramdev’s security. Do you feel it is justified? Should Baba Ramdev get z-category security?
Yes
• Baba Ramdev is a famous personality who has got several followers all over the nation, and therefore deserves z-category security.
• As he is on the target of fundamentalist organizations, it is clear that any harm done to him can create problems in society.
• Any harm to Baba Ramdev can not only create political drama but can also pave way for social problems in society.
• If Baba Ramdev is on target, then the common people associated with him can be harmed along with him. With Z-security, the organizations will give a second thought before attacking him.
• Baba Ramdev is working for the benefit of the society as a whole and in the process needs to move a lot. This makes him an easy target for the antisocial elements. He does deserve a Z security.
• In the process of getting the focus of media, society and government on corruption and black money, he has made himself a lot of enemies who can potentially harm him. Any harm caused to Baba Ramdev will be a big loss to the society & the world of yoga and ayurveda. Every step to protect him should be taken including the Z-Security.
No
• It is unclear whether Baba Ramdev is a ‘yogi’ or ‘bhogi’ as he calls himself as Yoga Guru and still seeks material pleasures and power.
• In 2011, Baba Ramdev went for a hunger strike and on police attack and ran away. He was responsible for risking the safety of his followers that are common people.
• IN 2012, series of inquires were set to find out whether Baba Ramdev and his trusts are evading taxes and violating foreign exchange laws. Should such a person really be given security?
• Security cover has become more like a status symbol. It is mockery of the concept of the security and total waste of taxpayer’s money.
• It seems as if the present government wants to return the favor to Baba Ramdev for his campaigning done ahead of the national election.
Conclusion
Z Security to anyone should be provided after evaluating the need carefully, as it involves tax payers money. Potential threats and existing threats are two different things. As the number of people seeking protection increases, the financial burden rises. Therefore, government should strictly evaluate each case on basis of severity of risks. Status or political connections should not be the reasons behind the security given.

- This discussion should have actually been done before granting the z-category security to Baba Ramdev. When the home ministry is utilizing government funds in protecting a common man with such heavy security, then it should have been done after a call with the common man who is contributing to the government fund in the form of various taxes.
Baba Ramdev is an ordinary Indian citizen as anyone else. We have many public figures in our country who are directly involved with the general public and any attack on them can agitate the entire nation. But we cannot afford to secure each and every such personality with z-category security. Armed men as bodyguard as also a statutory for the designation which Baba Ramdev definitely lacks.
We cannot defend the expense by calling the protection to be a protective measure for mass chaos by any organization. The terrorists if plan the attack, would definitely target the huge crowd and the security there would just be for Baba Ramdev and not for the common man. the civilians would be facing the consequences as always and Baba would find the narrow way out for escaping the attack.
It is a highly irresponsible decision to provide z-category security to any common man. This move has just added to the expense without any monetary benefit for the common man, for which he is paying.
