Should NDA consider being friends with TMC?
Should NDA consider being friends with TMC?
People cannot forget the harsh comments made by the political leaders of Trinamool Congress against Narendra Modi during the General Elections. And now the same party wants the new government to treat them as friends. Trinamool Derek O'Brien is the one who presented the support statements and proposal in Rajya Sabha. Now the big question here stands ahead Modi as to his government should accept and trust the conciliatory proposal of TMC?
Yes
• It will be the start of a new change that will lead to the proper coordination between the centre government and state government.
• The association with the regional parties is must for the Modi led government to clear the bills in upper house.
• NDA just has 63 seats out of 250 seats in the Rajya Sabha which will make it really difficult for the Modi government to get the majority in Upper house.
• Narendra Modi always talked about the importance of cooperative federalism and so it will be a right time to show it.
• Narendra Modi is a man who can handle the chaos well. He can accept the support of TMC as at some or other point it will come handy to him.
No
• All the regional parties understand the importance of Narendra Modi led government and therefore, they are just trying to take a diplomatic stand and nothing more.
• The regional parties will always be looking for their own personal benefits or for the reforms that will support their regions.
• Trinamool gave the support to the UPA government from ahead but never implemented it at the right time.
• Trinamool Congress is more known for creating obstacles in the parliament process. It is one of the major party behind the policy paralysis in UPA government.
• No one can forget that Trinamool Congress blocked the Teesta Water sharing agreement that left a negative impact on the India-Bangladesh ties.
• Trinamool Congress treated its own minister Dinesh Trivedi badly for hiking the railway fares and forced him to resign. How will it support the new government in passing the strong bills?
Conclusion
Trinamool Leader Derek O’Brien talked about the constructive opposition. But the problem is it is not easy to go with the words of the TMC leader. The past has shown that Trinamool Congress doesn’t support the constructive and harsh reforms. Instead it is the first party to take a opposite stance on the matter. Seeing the old trend, NDA government will get no strong support in its strong policies from TMC in the upper house. So, it really doesn’t make any sense to consider the conciliatory proposal of TMC.

- NDA is in a fairly good position right now. Though not having a stand in the Upper House, still Narendra Modi is a confident leader to get the things sorted with his intelligent moves. NDA is not currently in a position to look out for any urgent tie-up with any small party and tolerate the mess and chaos.
NDA can better follow the trend without TMC. With a so-called friendly knot with TMC, there will always be a possibility of their own supporters opposing them. It would definitely be an uncertain play to depend on TMC just to get the bills passed at the upper house.
TMC had created tough situations for the last UPA government. Having an opposition within the party would be a big loophole and burden for the ruling party. NDA could rather try to get things sorted with their brilliance, instead of considering tie-up with TMC.
