Should we back the decriminalization of homosexuality?

Every matter has two different perspectives. It is the same case when we talk about decriminalization of homosexuality. Proponents demand that homosexuality should be adopted legally so that same-sex couples can get marriage benefits and public approval for their relationship. On the other end, opponents call it as a sign of weakened and ill-set institution. What is your opinion on the matter? Will you back the decriminalization of homosexuality?

Yes

• Same-sex couples can become adoptive parents who can nurture orphan children with love and care. They can even enjoy the parenthood through artificial insemination. Thus, they can have a complete family.

• Homosexuality is a kind of human behavior and marriage is a pious relation formed on love. Both the factors justify decriminalization of homosexuality.

• We live in secular state where everyone from different culture and background is treated with respect. Homosexuals should get their rights.

• Christianity calls it as a sin but it is just a religion that is taught after birth. It is not necessary to follow all the old conventional thoughts preached by religion.

• The homosexual couples have to face unnecessary harassment at the hands of police even when they have not done anything wrong for just being homosexuals.

No

• Children need the love and support of mother as well as father, and it is not possible in case of homosexual’s marriage.

• Homosexuality is not approved by many religions like Hinduism and Christianity. It is against the set traditions.

• Marriage is a relationship formed by nature between a man and a woman. Decriminalization of homosexuality is against the nature laws.

• Decriminalization of homosexuality will pave way for polygamy and other forms of immoral sexual relationships.

• Homosexuals cannot procreate and therefore, there is no reason why government should go for decriminalization of homosexuality.

• Legalizing homosexuality will disturb the balance of nature which gave birth to Adam and Eve to begin human life on this earth. It will set a wrong precendence for the coming generations.

Conclusion

For every wrong act there are blind followers. It is the same case with homosexuals and the supporters of homosexuals. Just for a minority group who wants to go against the nature laws rules cannot be changed. The practices like widow remarriage were started as they resulted in a constructive change in society. However, decriminalization of homosexuality will lead to many other ill practices. No reasons are enough to justify same-sex relationships.

  • Let us start our discussion with the true meaning of homosexuality, and then move to the pros and cons of the relationship. The sexual orientation for the opposite gender is not an acquired factor. This is something that we attain by birth. The physiological changes that occur in our body and the various hormonal changes are responsible for the behaviours and mannerisms. If an individual is oriented towards their own sex mates, then it is not something that they have done wrong knowingly. When it is not within our hands to control our sexual orientation, then how can the same be a crime?

A crime can be linked to the homosexuality, in case one of the individual has forced his motive on the other. But, if the same is participated with each other’s approval, then this could not be a crime. And when we start discussing the approval of immoral relationships in context to the decriminalization of homosexuality, then it opens up another debate. What is immoral relationship, whether the one which is legally viable and acceptable by the narrow-minded society or the relationship that is true in sense with heart and soul, which doesn’t have any scope of betrayal? These things have different definition to different people. However, the cases of rape and related sexual assault without the approval of any one of the partners are definitely a crime. Be that a legible relationship between cross-gender or an homosexual.

Though we consider the homosexuality a crime or not, the relationships are not going to cease with the same. Neither could the individuals correct their orientation voluntarily, nor can they indulge in a normal life. Criminalizing the act would do nothing else than affecting the lives of other normal people. People would try to keep their orientation and behaviour secretive along with their relationship. Also, in order to hush up the matter in front of the society they might end up in forceful marriages which would be a lifetime punishment for the other partner without a satisfactory life to live-in.

Backing up homosexuality is not bad, but when we talk of the pairs adopting children, then this is where we need to think upon. Linking life with a homosexual partner could be their own choice for life, but adopting the child would affect the emotions and upbringing of the child. Even after decriminalising the act, our society would retain its mind-set and that would be reflected upon the child which would definitely affect the emotional and moral behaviour of the child.

Thus, we can definitely back the decriminalization of the homosexuality. However, that doesn’t call for the approval of their adopting a child, as creating the imbalance in a child’s behaviour would indirectly impact the society and the nation.
