What is the importance of studying Botany?
It is very important to study about the plants for a number of reasons.
- They give oxygen, food, fibres, fuel and medicine due to which the life forms exist on the planet.
- Through the process of photosynthesis they absorb carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas which if present in large amounts can affect our climate.
- Their presence has changed the atmosphere of the earth.
- It allows us to meet the demand of the people by producing food.
- Plants help us to produce medicine which can be used to treat diseases.
What skills are required by a Botanist?
To be a Botanist you should use the scientific rules and methods to solve problems. You should listen to what people are saying, take your time to understand the points said by them, ask them appropriate questions and never interrupt at inappropriate time. You should have an interest in the nature and the environment and a thorough knowledge of science, particularly biology and chemistry. Having an accuracy, attention to details and a methodical approach is also important. You should have the ability to analyse, interpret and report data. Having a strong communication and practical skills is also required.
