Smart Homes are a promising innovation.

The home automation market is here and is finally acknowledged by the industry. People are talking about the new concept where all the technology within a home will be controlled by a Smartphone. Whether it is a simple television or any other electronic devices like washing machines or air-conditioners, everything will work as per your instructions given on Smartphone. First Smartphone revolutionized our world and now Smart Homes are on their way. Do you think Smart Homes will work as a promising innovation?

Yes

• It would be easy to control all the technology even when you are away from the home. Like you can off the air conditioner left on even when you are not at home.

• It will enhance the efficiency of the technology. Already the robotic vacuum cleaners are adopted by the people. They clean the house when people are not at home.

• It will bring great comfort to the working people as they can save the time and energy required to complete the work after they come home.

• They can get rid of the extra expenses of keeping a maid and other servants to perform the various works.

• Parents can keep a better watch on their children like what should they watch on television and how long should they watch?

• The Smart Homes will be more energy efficient and will save you from paying heavy electricity bills.

• It would be really beneficial for the elderly people living alone as they are more forgetful.

No

• Balance is always the key. If homes are overly dependent on the remote controlled technology, any one single problem can disrupt the working of entire home.

• Internet of things on the first instance shows that things will be convenient and efficient, but it is never easy managing a technology. Even a simple electronic device like remote stops working many a times.

• Smart homes like other digital products will be more prone to hacking. It will provide the least security to the people.

• If all the tasks will be done automatically by a click, what the people are going to do? Their body is going to suffer in long term.

• A smart home is not a cup of tea for all people. It could be a great mess for the people who are not at all proficient in using technology.

Conclusion

The total market of Smart Homes in 2012 was about $1.5 billion which is expected to increase to $3.6 billion to $14.7 billion by 2017. The figures show a sharp rise of Smart Homes in next few years. The message is clear. People are accepting the change. Previously, when Smartphone came they also have many flaws and were not user-friendly. But with time, even the old age generation is using them easily. All new things first appear as impossible. However, as time passes by they become a part of human civilization.

  • speaking of the current condition of a developing nation like India, smart home is a luxury, where only a few handful of citizens can afford it and has the knowledge to proficiently use it. What I want to suggest is application of this technology in fields like irrigation, construction etc will be more beneficial.

  • The idea seems lucrative to have a smart home with every task being completed by technology. No more mess around to maintain the house, or keeping a maid and keeping a track of her for security etc. there would be relaxation time at home without the requirement of even getting up to pick up the remote of any device to switch on. Everything on our hands, just a click away.

Is this what life means? The answer is a definite no. the more sophisticated the technology, more are its accompanying complications. What would the human beings actually do without any physical exercise? Joining a gym and going for a walk can be good to portray, but our major part of exercise gets done by our day-to-day activities. Without these we will end up creating many new medical terminology for diseases.

Coming on to the privacy, when we say we can keep a watch on children at home, will that be as good as believing the child? The child would never trust anybody in life, as it is what the child has learnt from his parents to keep a spy for his each and every movement. This would be an unhealthy way of upbringing.

Next comes the affordability. This would not be a cup of tea for all, as such a technology would punch a big hole on the pockets. Again if the technology fails, the life would come to a standstill. Precisely, this technology is making humans as puppets into the hands of technology, which could never be welcomed.

  • I have got no problems with smart homes as they are only going to lessen some of human efforts not ,not going to make a statue out of him.here we need to understand that smart home wont cook food for us but it will only make our cooking easier and faster ,though the technology will be an expensive one and maintenance could cost some extra pennies, still life would be more easier and fun.
