Throw some light on the causes and possible solutions.
Stress – is the most heard word in the world these days. We have a tendency to use this term when we feel that we are overloaded by something. Any form of pressure is referred to as stress these days. Anything that poses a challenge or a threat to our well-being is a stress.
Stress is not always bad. Sometimes, a stress may give you a kick and boost your morale or performance. For example, the pressures of exams do put students in stress but at the same time, may extract best performance out of them. It is strangely true that without any stress at all, our lives would become boring and our existence would probably feel pointless.
However, the problem arises when the intensity of stress becomes too high or when it gets prolonged for a long duration. It is then, it starts interfering with our mental and physical health and psychological well being as well.
There are infinite causes of stress in the world. A situation/incidence which may be a cause of stress for one person may be cause of excitement/happiness for the other. Everyone has different reasons to get stressed. For example, a speeding car may be a source of entertainment for a person and may be a cause of huge stress for another.
However, the work pressure, peer pressure, busy schedules, personal relationships, health issues, financial problems and various types of irritants like noise; unpleasant people are the major causes of stress.
It is very important to fight stress at the right time as it can have severe effects on one’s health. For example, some of the most common effects of stress on heath are:
- Hypertension
- Insomnia
- Diabetes
- Herpes,
- Multiple sclerosis etc
However, stress has also been responsible for causing marriage breakups, family fights, road rage, suicides and violence in lot of cases.
Hence, it is very important that we should identify the stressor – that is, the cause of stress and should fight it with the right approach and positive attitude.
Rightly quoted by William James, “the greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another”.
