1. What is the procedure for? Who conducts it?


TNEA or the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission is a procedure conducted by Anna University for admission of UG students of Tamil Nadu. As of 2014, there is no official examination for TNEA and the students are selected based on merit in their 10+2 result in CBSE or equivalent state boards.

2. What is/are the college/colleges covered under this examination?


There are numerous University Colleges under Anna University, Government and Government Financed Engineering Institutions along with many Self-Financed private colleges which are covered under TNEA for B.Tech:

3. How to apply for TANCET?


There are two methods of applying for TNEA:

1. Online: Candidate needs to visit the official site of Anna University

A Demand Draft with TNEA Application fees must be readily available with the applying candidates

Once the form has been successfully submitted online, this DD needs to be sent to this address:

2. Offline: There are 2 means of submitting the form offline:

- Post: Candidate must send a hand written request for Application form of TNEA to be sent by post.

This is to be sent to the same address as mentioned above.
Enclosing the application should be a DD worth INR 700 (450 for SC/ST candidates) with a stamped envelope which is self addressed.

- Personally:

Candidate can issue TNEA Application form from any of the mentioned application centres.

A payment of INR 500 (250 for SC/ST) is to be made in cash or DD.

4. What is the eligibility criterion?


(Note: These eligibility criteria apply only to Indian Nationals, please refer the official homepage of Anna University if not in the category)

- Candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2 CBSE or equivalent board
- Candidate must have passed his higher secondary exam with minimum 50% marks aggregate (average of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) (General Category)
- Candidate must have passed his higher secondary exam with minimum 40% marks aggregate (average of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) (SC/ST Category)

5. What is the generalised selection procedure?


The last date of submitting the application form is normally around May end. After that the selection procedure begins.
Application Scrutiny is the first process; this is an internal process which begins after application submission. The forms are scanned and random no. and rank list is declared according to which the counselling procedure is carried out.

6. What is the concept of Random Number and Rank Publication?


Every candidate is provided a random number, which is produced by a procedure, whose results cannot be predicted and hence this number cannot be produced again. A random number is assigned to every applying candidate before the rank generation and after application scrutiny process.

Rank is generated to the candidates after that which is an average of Physics and Chemistry marks scaled to 50 and Mathematics marks scaled to 100. Hence the average cut off generated is out of 200. The marks obtained from various boards are first normalised and then fed for result generation.

Following this rank list, the counselling process takes place.

7. What is the cost of application form?


Cost of application form is INR 500 for General Candidates and INR 250 for SC/ST candidates.

By post the cost of application form becomes INR 700 for General Candidates and INR 450 for SC/ST candidates.

8. What are the cut off marks for best colleges in Tamil Nadu?
