Thinking about the worst prepares you for the worst - Group discussion

We all hope for the best. Hoping for the best and still working to achieve what you want could turn things in your favor. When we think about the worst, we prepare ourselves financially, mentally and emotionally for any shortcomings.

For:

- Thinking about the worst helps you prepare for the worst. It helps you plan and manage your resources appropriately.

- People get life insurances done because they are preparing for the worst.

- Thinking positive always doesn’t help. "Worst" comes as a shock for which you are not prepared.

- Most companies have fire drills and mechanisms to save their employees in case of emergency.

- Thinking about the worst increases your chances of survival. For e.g. you are in a partnership. So, you should be prepared for your partnership to break and still be able to manage.

- Thinking about the worst makes you stronger eventually. You are prepared for the worst so when you encounter it, you can overcome it.

Against:

- Always thinking about the worst makes you pessimistic.

- No matter how much you prepare yourself, some things are beyond our control. For e.g. recession.

- If you keep thinking about the worst, you tend to ignore opportunities.

- For some people, thinking about the worst way too much takes a toll on their subconscious mind. Things unknowingly start to devour them.

We don’t have a control over some situations. Some of us believe in destiny while some believe that we write our own destiny. Regardless, we must not be so confident that when a peril strikes, we are helpless. Thinking about the worst doesn’t mean you become pessimistic. You should evaluate and consider all possible scenarios that you may encounter.
