What activities of a Government can make it successful in the country?
A country should have a healthy democracy to elect a government and Indians are lucky that they are citizens of a nation which values democratic rights. So i wish to express my views on the activities of a democratic government that can make it successful.
Democratic government should function as the main protector of our rights and freedoms as well. But in reality, our rights depend heavily on active government i.e. on positive government actions. In fact, the very existence of rights depends on government. In a very real way, rights and civil liberties are actually political constructs-creations of government.
The major activities in the form of policy programs that can make a Government successful in a country are:
Regulation of the Business Cycle. Until the financial crisis that began in 2008, most people had forgotten how dependent we are on the government to prevent economic depressions. The government has use a variety of monetary and fiscal policies to limit the natural boom and bust cycles of the economy.
Public Health Programs - A variety of programs can be run under the National Health programme state and local Public Health departments that can greatly improve the health of most citizens. For example diseases of polio, cholera, and smallpox can be effectively eradicated from the country.
Consumer Protection - In reaction to spurious and bad products, government can pass legislation to protect consumers from shoddy and dangerous products. The maxim Consumer is King should hold true.
Social Security and Medicare - These two government programs if implemented properly can make growing old simple. People can enjoy retirement years free from poverty and illness.
Deposit Insurance - Another government program to win people hearts is full protection of bank deposits by people for the hard earned savings.
Government Networking project - Excellent road, rail network and communications to make people across distance closer to each other.
Right to Information and other laws to bring in greater transparency in the way government functions to run the country.

- A successful Government is the one which works for the people, for their betterment. Government in India today is more concerned of its status in comparison to the other countries of the world. But we fail to think of the necessities to protect the interest of the citizens at first place.
More the government is in interaction with the common man, more could be the people friendly policies in the state. To understand the basic necessities of the common man, the ministers need to visit the public at regular intervals and keep a note of the requirements and design a way out to rectify the same for them.
The main concern today is the level of security within the state, especially for the females, senior citizens and children. No less is the eating up corruption, which holds back every work. Government creates many policies and principles on paper, but those policies get buried into the government files without any actual implementation. Honesty and work efficiency have become history; and those who try to work on good old lines are termed mere fools.
The government to be successful should have the social sense, vigour to understand the problems of common man, effective policies to rectify the faults and sincere implementation of the same in reality.

What activities of a Government can make it successful in the country?
Introduction
Certain activities of a government can make it extremely successful in the country. A government that follows principles of good governance will garner the support and trust of people throughout the nation. Strategies and tactics of governance must be in accordance with the changing socio-economic milieu, but the key principles of good governance are a must if any government has to be successful in the country. Retaining a sustained success record in the country also involves sustaining economic growth and development while attending to the needs of the poor and the marginalized.
Viewpoint
Successful governance is all about following a core set of principles that are of deep relevance to the population of the country. Safeguarding the integrity of public service is a key principle of good governance. The financial health and economic well being of the country must be protected as well. Everything from pension to healthcare and banking should be managed with efficiency and effectiveness. Introspection and adequate governance reforms are also a key point of good governance. India is a democracy and transparency is important to ensure that public officials are being held accountable for any lapses. Citizens want to see responsible leaders at the helm. Making this a reality involves more than just voting for the right leader. It is also the duty of the government to check the record of candidates who appear for election and ensure that they do not have a criminal background.
Whether it is within the administration or the public arena, what are needed are leaders who blend inspirational visions with pragmatic concerns. Aiming for superpower status for India is one thing. Achieving it is another. The government also needs to mobilize activists and citizens to be active stakeholders in the decision making process. Capable leaders are needed to make the system function effectively. Systemic faults and flaws in administration practices and policies also need to be addressed at an early stage before the problem escalates. The government needs to pursue growth and development that is equitable. Government schemes and policies should be evaluated regularly for their impact and coverage.
Leaders who have the moral courage to accept and correct mistakes are also needed. Whether it comes to law and order or policies, the government should accept failures and take quick remedial steps to correct the situation before it goes out of hand. The government also needs to be alert about the opinion of citizens on key issues following the implementation of policies. Factors such as anti-incumbency operate in India because the country is too vast for a single political party to handle on its own. Any party needs supportive regional leaders and alliances as well as an active opposition if it has to be a success. Single party governments in India have given way to coalitions because regional politics has its own dimensions. A successful government is one that is progressive and carries on affirmative action programs for women as well as the oppressed and marginalized.
Governments also need to stay relevant and keep up with the changing times. At one point in time, poverty was the biggest problem in India. Now, the chief concern is economic growth and equitable development, though poverty is still an important issue. Governments need to re-orient their policies keeping these factors in mind. The government also needs to be open to new ideas and innovations if it has to succeed in India. Nation-building will prove elusive unless the government takes steps for creating opportunities for all its citizens. Inclusive growth is all about creating a nation where economic prosperity is coupled with social welfare for all. Any government which has to succeed in India must target all sections of society and not just the rising middle class. Vote bank politics is nothing new in India. But, charismatic leaders with a vision will continue to draw crowds and garner support irrespective of the regional factors.
Economic growth and progress are critical for the success of any government. Participation in decision making and consensus building is very important for successful governance in India. Legal frameworks must be held in place and there should be protection of basic human rights. Transparency is the key. The government also needs to be responsive to the needs of businessmen, entrepreneurs, thinkers, intellectuals, professionals and farmers. All sectors of the economy need to be given a big priority for balanced economic growth and development.
Conclusion
Any government that wants to be successful in India must have a strategic vision. It must balance social welfare with economic growth, infrastructure building with sustainable development. Sanitation, healthcare, education, housing, safety and security as well as technological and scientific progress should remain the key areas where programs and policies must be formulated by the government. For any government to succeed in India, it has to have a strong national pride and patriotism for the welfare of Indians. Leaders should not have any vested interests. Their sincerity and integrity should not be in doubt. Only then can any political party every hope to achieve lasting political tenure in the unpredictable arena of Indian politics.
