What are the educational Qualifications required to be a tax consultant?

. I have done my XII from CBSE and want to know the educational qualification required to be hired for a job in the field of taxation.

Ans. The educational qualification that is required to be hired for jobs in the field of taxation is generally graduation and post graduation in commerce. As you have completed XII from a recognised state/national board, you can pursue graduate level courses. If you want to go ahead further and do Post Graduate courses then you must complete your graduation in a relevant stream from a reputed university. Various institutes in India are conducting courses in the field, to produce competent professionals who can work in the field of taxation. Apart from the above requirements, anyone with a formal education in the field of taxation or having any degree with taxation as a specialised subject can also opt for this career. So, if you have done L.L.B degree it will work as a foundation course and will give you basic understanding of the various tax laws which are rampant in the industry. If you have done your graduation through a B.Com or a BMS (Bachelor of Management studies) course then that could also give you some edge in the field of taxation. If you want to be good in this field then you should make full use of the theoretical knowledge at practical applications and learn the concept application skills.
Apart from these educational qualifications you require some personal attributes that build your personality and make you stand apart from others. To do exceedingly well in your tax consultancy career, an individual should possess a few qualities. To stand apart from others you should have various skills such as ability to think differently, a creative mind, good communication skills, updated general awareness, abundant knowledge about taxation sector and the market, and the ability to work as part of a team. You should also have strong problem solving skills, a command over Microsoft office, especially Excel spreadsheet skills. In any field strong ethics, interest and desire to succeed is what determines the success of any individual.
