What do astronomy professionals do?
The main job of astronomy professional is to work on the research that is conducted in the different areas of specialties. This research work includes gathering, analysis and interpretation of data. These large amounts of data’s are gathered through observatories and satellite findings. These data’s are then reported and the findings are taken into scientific papers. Professionals have to take observations through equipments like ground based telescopes and other sources.
How can I get into a course in Astronomy?
Aspirants who want to acquire graduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of astronomy needs to clear higher secondary with Physics and/or Mathematics as subjects. These students can either take up B.Sc. course with PCM or can do under graduation course in Astronomy and then can do further post graduate studies.
To go for a post graduation course in Instrumentation / Experimental astronomy, the aspirant can do BE in Electronics/ Electrical / Electrical communication after clearing 12th.
After clearing graduation course the aspirant can apply for Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), on clearing these they can join Master’s or doctoral courses. On the basis of the result of these tests, some of the research institutes offer fellowships also.
