What is the difference between selling and marketing?

Selling is just a part of marketing which focuses upon the product and aims to maximise profits through maximisation of sales volume while marketing is wider in scope as it covers other areas also like advertising and promotion,distribution,supply chain management, apart from selling. Marketing focuses more upon the customer than product and aims at fulfilling the needs and wants of the customers via customer satisfaction. It involves coordinating all the departments of an organisation in order to cater towards the needy customers.
