What is your style of management?

In today’s scenario, everything needs customization, so here also, one size can’t fit all i.e. one management style won’t work in all situations. So, offer “situational” as your style of management.

You can just say that you manage according to the situation. One style doesn't work always.

  • If you are looking for a job in management, this question will come in one way or the other as a part of behavioural assessment. Your leadership qualities are at check so you can begin by implying how you can make your team adapt to various circumstances focusing on what drives them to work hard or get a work done. Know your people and only then can you expect to direct their capabilities towards getting your work done. The interviewer is keen to know if you can adapt to situations and have the problem solving capacity without succumbing to extremities. Here's an answer:

"I am adaptable to circumstances and possess an ability to understand what would drive my team under a given situation to make them perform at par with excellence. When required I can be an encouraging motivational leader incentivizing my team and I can also be stern when it calls for being in charge."

You need not swear by a particular style when you have your own. Just don't make it very obvious that you cannot perform outside your preferred zone.
